Kraken Black Spiced Rum was first introduced by Proximo Spirits in 2010 . The dark rum is infused with 11 “secret” spices, caramel and other natural flavors.
The rum gets its name after the mythical sea creature 'The Kraken'. As legend has it, this terrifying creature attacked ships at sea during the 18th and 19th centuries - possibly for all the rum on board.

A surprisingly strong rum! Rich and almost cloyingly sweet in flavour, it would probably do better mixed with a soft drink. I'm a fan of the piratey aesthetic and the cracking name (heh) more than anything.
This rum is full of flavour and really boosts your mixers with a rasiny/boozy flavour. It is still quite sweet and lovely to drink neat, too if you prefer. There are however far better rums for a similar price that would be better neat.
As a mixer it’s fantastic. Not super smooth by itself, but really good with some coke. My normal is diet A&W Root Beer. It mixes nicely with that. Wife loves it too.
I surprisingly enjoyed this rum.... not overly expensive
A good choice for anytime! Great mixed with dry and a slice of grapefruit.
This was my introduction to the rum world and my go to for years. Kraken has some very nice vanilla, caramel, and I'd say some dark chocolate notes to it, It's a great mixer and for me a very nice sipper. However it does have a little bit of bite (which for many can find too harsh) but for 47% I'd say smooth. The great thing about this rum is if you're working to build your palate, the high proof of this alcohol I have found will do it for you, overall I love this rum and it will forever be in my shelf and if your into harder stuff I'd say in yours too.
Side Note: The Mexican Kraken is 35% and a lot smoother and sweeter, if you can get access to it get it!!! 9/10
I'm new to Rum still. This is the 3rd Rum I've tried in my middle age. The first two were Captain Morgan Private Stock & El Dorado 12, I Loved them both. That said I bought the Kraken because I liked the sounds of a "Dark n' Stormy" because I love lime & The recipe called for Dark Spiced Rum. I think that dark, spiced Rum is not for Me & I'll stick to the sweeter Rums.
A great mic-xing rum that brings great flavor even to as simple of a drink as a rum and coke.
Kraken should be more strong, shouldn't ti? It is good fór sipping when nothing else is around
A caramel/treacley heavy molasses like smell. .
"There is nothing subtle about the spicing and the caramel flavour makes the rum, to my taste overly sweet."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This very dark rum is widely distributed (in the Midwest at least), but I’ve never had the opportunity to try it. Given the pretty fair rating it had on this app I decided to pull the trigger. I kracked (see what I did there?) the bottle and took a swig. Mmmm, smooth, not bitter, strong manly flavor, not overpowering on the spice, very tasty from start to finish. Mixed it with some Diet Coke with Lime and thoroughly enjoyed this high octane (94 proof) offering.
