Havana Club Añejo Especial is a blend of rums aged for up to five years produced from the fermented molasses of sugar cane harvested in Cuba. The molasses is combined with yeast and water, distilled using column stills, and aged in white oak barrels.
Havana Club was founded in 1878 by Jose Arechabala and later nationalized after the Cuban Revolution in 1959.

Great for mixing makes the best Cuba Libra used every we’re in Havana I staid for a week and it’s the staple rum in most good bars . Also nice on ice for sipping mellow and bit spiced .
I have had some of Havana Club's rums previously and found them to be quite good. This one has an early bite that robs the rum of it's smooth underlying quality.
It's one I tend to drink in bars where they don't sell lots of rum. For me it's always a good choice, but I prefer the Havana 7 if I can choose between both.
I don't think location makes any difference in rums but this is my first Cuban. Had it a couple times at a friend's house who is not a rum drinker but they brought it back from their trip to Cuba. I felt it had a good taste and was reasonably smooth to my uneducated palate. No idea of the price which does have a minor effect on my ratings. Not in my list of favorites but enjoyable.
Perfect for a hard party night, not recommendable for a relaxed afternoon. Defenitely not on the rocks. Good for Cuba Libre.
Un ron con el que nunca vas a perder. siempre ganador cuan un añejo es bien logrado. Palmas Havana Club
Definitely takes on a bright taste of the barrel so doesn’t hide behind mixers which makes it good for rum and cokes. Drinks like a loud bourbon on the rocks
For a cheap rum, this is surprisingly smooth. It is slightly sweet with a caramel, vanilla, toffee and brown sugar flavour and just a touch of smoke.
Maybe it's not as good as a £20-£30 rum, but at around £12 a bottle, it's extremely good value!
Belle touche vanille idéal pour cocktail ou accompagner un dessert.
Senteur fruitée.

Some oaky spicy notes.
"It’s very heavy with vanilla and the caramel and brown sugar notes are too much. The rum is quite smooth and not very rough."

This is not a tasty rum. No sweetness, no spices, no sugar cane, no........nothing at all. I mixed it with Red Circle and Coke Zero to get some taste. Tried the 7 year too. It was just a bit better, but still bad. I don't dare to try another Havana Club for some time.
