The James Gosling family business first produced Gosling Black Seal rum in 1806, and it is now the oldest surviving business on the island of Burmuda.
Gosling 'Black Seal' rum received it's name from the black wax originally used to seal the bottles. It is Bermuda's most widely exported product and considered the nation's national drink.

Perfect to mix in cocktails, but It also does taste just fine on it own.
Upon first taste of this rum it was clear that this had to mixed to be even slightly enjoyable. while dark n stormy with this rum is seemingly a fan favorite I was not a fan. Black Kraken is a much better mixer than this even though it's cheaper.
It's a fine product. For my taste it's a bit too molassy and oily but the as the posts above says, it's the best for Dark N Stormy.
Goslings has quite spicy flavor and has hints of anis flavor in it. In my opinion gosling is ok for cocktails but not a sipper. This should be obvious. If I would choose a mixer, I would select kraken over this.
Makes a great dark and stormy obviously. Still good to sip on its own. Not the moat complex but just a good straight forward caribbean rum.
I prefer using this rum in mixers (my personal favorite is a rum & coke with sugarcane Coke). Has hints of vanilla and caramel, hence my recommendation for mixing. Despite their advertising, I would not recommend using this rum in a dark and stormy.
Sweet but dark. Acceptable straight, better mixed. Somewhat harsh at times.
This is part of a 24 Rum Advent Calendar given to me.
Dark amber in color. Faint nose, slightly sweet. Mild mouth feel with a nice balance of flavor to alcohol. Interesting flavor that I can't quite land on, but not unpleasant. None of the vanilla, caramel, spice that the color would lead you to expect. Respectable.
Dark mahogany in the glass.
On the nose heavy scents of strong burnt caramel, dark chocolate, wood tones, cloves and other spices.
Very fruity on the palate, orange zest, caramel and some wood.
In the finish caramel with tropical fruits.
The rum for the perfect Dark 'n' Stormy!
I don't get it, this stuff is crap! Maybe I just don't like flavored rum?
Tried it in a 'dark and stormy' as well, not a fan.
'well balanced and nuanced with butterscotch, vanilla and caramel'
"Goslings Black Seal rum review by The Ultimate Rum Guide"
The nose is very pungent. Heavy thick treacly molasses and sweet caramel.
"It’s initially sweet like liquorice, there is a little heat and spice in the mix and the finish is long and slightly bitter."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I can sip this. But I think I taste something other than rum. Not that this extra taste is disagreeable.
