Flor de Caña Gran Reserva 7-Year

I must have had too much expectations from this 7yo. It is ok, nice smell not so aromatic but drinkable as it is.

I really like the flavors. Great rum for mixed drinks or shots. Not enough complexity or finish for sipping. But it's cheap. I can see myself keeping a bottle around.

Light brown in colour.
Slight smell of coffee, and alcohol.
Overwhelming taste of alcohol.

Tasty, but not so good for me. It took me a long time to drink it.

Given multiple attempts of this rum and each time I'm just left wanting more out of it. It is definitely missing something. Possibly needed to be aged more with a bit more of a kick to it.

The best thing I can say about this rum is that is it very easy to drink; but that's also its weak point, no character at all in my opinion. I guess it makes an awesome mixer. 5 years is a better option overall.

Nice flavours and clean finish. I have a rew others that I prefer as a sipping rum over this one but it is enjoyable non the less. Decent for the lower price and a good lineage of longer aged namesakes. Glad I tied this one but the next one will be something different.

I'm still new to rum tasting and working on my pallet but I had a glass of this neat followed by a glass of Appleton Signature (green label) and I much prefer the latter. Haven't tried it in cocktails yet but hoping for a good mixer.
