El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum is crafted from 15 to 25 year old rums that are then blended and married together in bourbon oak casks. Prior to blending the original batches are distilled using 4 unique stills - the Enmore and Diamond Coffey stills, the Port Mourant double wooden pot still, and the Versailles single wooden pot still.
The bottle of El Dorado Special Reserve 15-year was inspired by the the old hand-blown flasks used by sugar planters on the banks of the Demerara river.

the 12 is tasty but this is much smoother. Enjoyed sipping with whiskey stones. Slight aromas of stone fruits and burnt sugars. Alcohol warming lingers and finishes rather sweet.
Very smooth rum, with a chocolate, cocoa, caramel nose. Not too sweet and with a wonderful pallet
barva - tmavě červená
vůně - taková ostřejší, dubová a květnatě navoněná (připomíná mně to těžkou vůni muškátů), ovšem sladkost je samožřejmě cítit - vanilka, trošku bourbonová parfém-vůně, rozinky, hořká čokoláda, koření
chuť - v chuti ze začátku sladké, později přechází do takové nakyslosti - ovocnější a méně likérové - kávový dezert, vanilka, nastupující pomeranče, limetky, máta
dozvuk - čokoládový dort, sušené tmavé ovoce, sladká dřevitost a troška skořice
hodnocení - výborná záležitost, vyzrálý rum s výraznými ovocnými chutěmi a velice zajímavou vůní
Rhum assez "facile" à boire, plutôt doux, sans être trop artificiel.
Well, I have never been into rums before. One day I was given a bottle El Dorado 15 yo as a present. Thank you so much Rudy, indeed! By tasting it a new chapter of my drinking life has been launched :) I was extremely surprised and pleased at the same time by well-balanced taste, smoothness and richness of this rum. From that time my mind keeps me focused on rums and I think I have a new hobby :) Nevertheless, I am very beginner within this field since I can't compare with many I have ever drunk. But I know for sure it represents a taste I expect from rum. That's why I rated at 9 to leave a buffer for a one that will overpass. Well done Demerara!
I've waited a while to be able to find this wonderful rum. It lives up to its reputation.
It has a nice nose, maybe not as wide as some such as Zacapa or Diplomatic Reserva Exclusiva. Dark fruit, spice and vanilla are all there. The palate is an unbelievable taste experience. The dark fruit of raisins, prunes and toffee dominate the profile. I noticed right away that this lives up to the hype of being sweet, it is! To those that say Diplomatico is sweeter, not to my mouth. This is the sweetest rum, not including flavored, that I have ever had. The finish is great, you get a bit of the fruit, some banana, and no burn. Finish sticks around a bit as does the flavor. There is a wonderful after taste of fruit and a bit of what others have described as funk. I don't think it's so much as a funk as almost copper. Part of the distilling process or the cask finish. Either way, fantastic rum that is dangerous. I can straight drink this, not just sip this! Be responsible.
The El Dorado 15 is ideal for those who tend to prefer a rum that's on the sweeter side of the spectrum. It's a very complex spirit featuring a smooth finish. I mostly get rich chocolate and some hints of coffee from it. Highly recommended as a sipping rum, neat... no ice needed. For those of you living in the northern hemisphere, this will take you on a beautiful journey in warmer places!
I liked it but there is such a minimal difference to the 12 year that does not justify the price difference. I'll go with the cheaper 12 year old.
Full nose packed with dark coffee, candied orange, almonds, dark chocolate...
"El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum review by Mike at Ultimate Rum Guide"
Has more oak and chocolate notes.
"It is initially very sweet, apples, bananas and rum soaked raisins but there are also some bittersweet plum like notes. The finish is spicy and fruity and long lasting."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Good may be a little better than the 12 but may not be worth the price difference
