El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum is crafted from 15 to 25 year old rums that are then blended and married together in bourbon oak casks. Prior to blending the original batches are distilled using 4 unique stills - the Enmore and Diamond Coffey stills, the Port Mourant double wooden pot still, and the Versailles single wooden pot still.
The bottle of El Dorado Special Reserve 15-year was inspired by the the old hand-blown flasks used by sugar planters on the banks of the Demerara river.

My second sipper rum after Diplomatico RE, I instantly found this one drier, more complex, and slightly more challenging given its pleasant burn. My favorite part of this rum is the nose—toasted nuts, roasted coffee, and dark brown sugar. Pro tip: revisit the empty glass a couple hours after finishing for an indulgent olfactory treat. The taste is equally luscious and rich, with walnuts, vanilla, caramel, and a large hit of woody oak. At times, I find the dry oak burn a bit much if I’m not ready for it. There’s no mistaking this is barrel-aged rum. My preferred sipper of choice—a balance of indulgence with a hint of challenge. I plan on trying it in the occasional cocktail as well.
This rum is full of flavor and very balanced. A bit of oak but not more than expected. A bit of dark chocolate and a bit sweet from the added sugar.
Straight to the point - its sweet. Not too sweet, but still. However, with 43% alcohol voltage its perfectly ballanced. Very good rum.
Asi najlepší z môjho Cabinet. Mám rád aj el dorado 12 years. Tento je však ešte o kúsok pred ním
Nose: orange peel, beeswax, leather, vanilla, brown sugar, ginger, green apple, allspice and honeysuckle. A complex nose. On the palate: it’s smooth, peppered oak gives way to toffee, peacan pie and other bruleed notes. Butter and banana introduce the long finish - it reminds me of a butter tart. Outstanding!
Having tried several of their other offerings, I can confidently say this is my favorite rum from El Dorado now... The sweetness drops off noticeably to leave a fantastically balanced, and delightful drink. Definitely in my "must have" selection from now on.
Discovered during a tasting, felt in love instantly. Then only could buy a 12y which is good but not as good as the 15y.
Full nose packed with dark coffee, candied orange, almonds, dark chocolate...
"El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum review by Mike at Ultimate Rum Guide"
Has more oak and chocolate notes.
"It is initially very sweet, apples, bananas and rum soaked raisins but there are also some bittersweet plum like notes. The finish is spicy and fruity and long lasting."

This is the best sipper rum I’ve tested yet, on this range of price it’s my favorite, Diplomatico Réserva Exclusiva used to be 1st place, now El dorado 15 is exactly how I like my rum, a little sweet, explosive flavors, great smell, oh, after the first glass I ordered another one.
I have tested El Dorado 8yrs and 12yrs. Both won’t be on my shopping list again, ED15 is a really great tasting rum.
Give it a try, you won’t regret it !
