El Dorado 12-Year rum

El Dorado 12-Year

Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still

El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.

Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

This is a classic aged Demerara rum—sweet as hell, but in a nice and mellowed way that doesn't feel cloying or artificial. You can use it as a mixer, but I feel like it's a little bit of a waste versus just sipping it.

Had my rambling round for coffe ( 9 )and tasting of El Dorado 12y this was blind having Malt drinkers I wanted a reactcion from there tast buds , which I got , this was rated highly as a Sayside Malt with a smoth port finnish which I got also.
When I showed the bottle they coud not beleive they had been tasting Rum. So I gave them the history of Rum in Guyana 300 od distileries now to three wooden still etc. Now I have three new Rum drinkers, I had 9 guys that day. 8/10

It's the sweetest rum ever made.
And it's full of sugar, just watch the glass next day.
For me, it ends in the tea. It was the longest lasting bottle i ever got. And i remembered it, even it's around 8 years ago. For me, never again.

Určitě by měl vyzkoušet každý, kdo má rád dobrý rum.

I enjoyed this enough to want to try more of the El Dorado range and understand where this 12 year really stands. The smell was gorgeous and I feel that orange, vanilla vibe that isn't the sickly artificial orange vanilla vibe.

One of the best rums I've ever tasted! It combines qualities peculiar to different types of rum: it's dry, heavy, but at the same time it's oily and sweet. Sophisticated and complex beverage for people who know things! Enjoyed this rum!!!

As others have said, this is a good gateway rum if (like me) you're a beginner. It's sippable stuff, though not very remarkable. Unlike some other rums aged in ex-bourbon casks, it doesn't have a distinct off-putting whiskey taste (are you listening, Mount Gay?). I don't feel it's a crime to mix it, it's tasty with juice or in a hot buttered rum and might be considered as a go-to mixer rather than a sipper although it's too pricy for me to consider it for that. It might grow on me as I compare it to others, though I'm now moving away from sweeter rums and I feel this has a bit too much sugar. It's enjoyable; however I'm searching for a go-to rum and this isn't it...it's too sweet and too expensive for me, though I can see why others might prefer it.

Great gateway rum, not too sweet, not too sharp, not too fruity, not too caramely.
Coffee and dark chocolate on both nose and tongue, but not in a bad way - coming from someone who doesn't like those tastes very much.
Mostly a blender for me but decent sipper as well.
