My normal sipper is Bacardi 8 and this one seems on par with that to me. Will have to try a side-by-side to nail it down. Will be a fun test.
Dark, deep flavour with tones of wood, ash. Less honey taste than zacapa 23. Deeper, richer than diplomatico mantuano. The bottle is really cool, but is it worth the extra cost, compared to zacapa? Not sure, feels like a strong mature rum. I will need a few more sips to make the right judgement. Not bad, thats for sure.
Don Q Gran Anejo is well packaged and looks very impressive.
Unfortunately, my good feelings for this rum prospect ended there.
It has a strong smell and creates a real burning sensation in the mouth.
It is drinkable with a mixer, however it just does not make the grade as a rum to be enjoyed on its own.
Wow! Why did I not decide for the other one in the store. Very flat flavor, no vanilla, marginal or no sugar added. However a strong smell - very similar to that of my childrens glue - remains on top of all.
sorry, but half of the money you pay is obviously for the nice bottle.

I bought this rum on a whim based on the strong recommendation from the liquor store owner. I admit I was a little skeptical, but got it for a good price and thought it'd be fun to try a new rum.
I was actually very pleasantly surprised, and thought it was a very good, solid rum! I gave it a weighted score of 8.05, which I rounded down to 8 for rumratings.com. My scoring system (with weights) is as follows:
-Packaging (10%): 7
-Color (20%): 7
-Nose (20%): 8.5
-Palette (25%): 8
-Smoothness (25%): 9
It had a great flavor and was nice and smooth. I would have no problem at all buying this rum again, and would confidently serve it to guests.
Very enjoyable. I preferred on the rocks. Nicely built flavor profile. Nothing jumps out but everything fits
Straw colored, pleasantly sweet nose, not as sweet on the tongue as some in this price range but it finishes cleanly and without much burn. I'm fine with the lack of sweet. This is unapologetically good rum with no frills or fancy facades. $57 (NW Florida,USA) is about right.
This one actually tastes a lot better than I expected. First impression, the bottle is really cool, because the stopper is neat. This rum really has a good flavor and is pretty smooth. A bit expensive I think, but it is good.
Don Q Gran Anejo is a smooth rum without any added sugars/flavors. Higher in price than some others that in my option are a better value...Kirk and Sweeney comes to mind.
A sweet almost perfumed like aroma is followed by some oak, a little spice and a lovely waft of light vanilla.
"The initial sip gives a sweet yet slightly peppery entry. Running alongside these flavours is a subtly creamy vanilla note which runs right through the rum. The finish is long and peppery."

Sort of a rum without qualities - it is drinkable, but cannot tell you much of its flavor besides the sweet wood.
