I bought a bottle after seeing it rated so highly by online reviews. Thought it had a taste I couldn't put my finger on. Re-read some reviews and agree it is like a butterscotch/toffee. Smooth though, no burn aftertaste.
I have less expensive rums which I think taste much better. Paid $100 US for the bottle.
Bought this purely based on other rumratings reviews. Excellent!! Coffee, smoky (oak), , chocolate and butterscotch. I've never tasted another rum like it. Not the easiest rum to find in SWFL, but I will find another!
I love all of the dictador rums but this is my favourite and has been for a couple of years. Smooth with a long pleasant aftertaste. Maple syrup, coffee and wood. I usually have at least one bottle spare. I have converted many whiskey fans to rum with this.
The bottle is very nice and even has a glass cork.
That is all the positive feedback I can give about this drink.
I refuse to call this a rum! It is an abdomination and for a ridiculous price nevertheless. Because of the high rating here I decided to try a bottle. My buddy and me decided to try drinking this stuff in different ways: let it rest for 5 mins, let it rest for 30 mins, add a splash of water, add multiple splashes of water. But we both ended up throwing away what was left in our glasses. I have never threw away anything but this is really horrible.
We had only a small bottle to taste, but this was really good. Unfortunately it is not too cheap, but I am planning to order a full bottle.
If Rum could be a comfort food, this would be it. It is surprisingly dessert-like with a very difficult-to-find combination of smoothness, boldness, rich flavors and delicate sweets. So far, this is the least amount of burn I have tasted in a Rum. Similar in that way to selva ray green, but thicker and more flavorful. Not as refined as selva ray, but still smooth and sweet. Goes down easy. I drank two bottles by myself on vacation with no trouble at all. Absolutely delicious chilled and neat. When I do tastings for friends, I use this bottle to showcase a beautiful sweet rum and the opposite of a Barbados style. Gorgeous. The only rum I ordered 5 bottles of. Also, it is far smoother and better than the Perpetual. 9.6
Very smooth, lots of flavour, well balanced. Coffee aroma like the other Dictador. But the first seep is very disturbing if you re looking for a "true"rum.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

A powerfull aroma unfolds in your nose, with notes of honney, liqourice, coffee and a hint of citrus. The palette is big bodied with a dark profile of liqourice, barrel, tobaco, roasted coffee and honney. The taste fades into a dark, semidry liqourice aftertaste and leave your mouth coated with an oily feeling. It's not bad at all, but considering the price, and the almost equally enjoyable and very cheap dictador 12, i find this to be slightly overpriced.
