Strong smell of white oak, nicely coupled with coffee. The taste is rather dry, with fruits, white oak (not charred), with strong coffee ending. I can understand this is not everyone's cup of coffee (literally), but I love it. This is a fair priced sipper with a distinctive taste. Reedit 06/2021 - either the Covid confused my tastebuds, or the recipe changed, or I was just writing nonsense in my original review based on what I remembered (had had two bottles quite some time before I wrote it), but the taste I can feel now is sweet, there is definitely some sweetner added, I cannot feel coffee notes anymore, also the oak is almost gone, instead I can feel walnuts and licorice in smell and taste and somewhat harsh alcohol underneath.

Very dark brown color. Nose of burnt brown sugar and rubber, almost chemical. The taste is dry and the alcohol is well integrated. But I didn't like that nose.

The Dictador 12y Solera is a rum made from sugar cane honey. The distillery Colombiana in Cartagena de Indias uses the Pot and Column Still and has the Solera stored in used oak barrels for real 12 years. The term Solera refers here only to the replenishment of the Angel Share. To create a distinct caramel note, the barrels are burned out before storage. In the end, it is bottled with 40% alcohol in the typical Dictador bottle, which in this case is black and not transparent. The rum is unsweetened and without additives.

On the nose I receive Dictador typical aromas of caramel, cocoa, burnt malt and leather. I can't perceive much coffee. On the palate, the rum is strong. Caramel again, smoke, malt, some cocoa and vanilla. So far so good. Unfortunately, however, the leather note is far too concise, pushes itself into the foreground and paints everything over. In the finish comes a clear sharpness and the leather can not really be expelled. After one glass I had no desire to drink it anymore.

After several tastings, I can say that I don't like the rum subjectively. But it is also not very well balanced and I wonder for whom the rum is produced. For 30 euros, it is in the entry-level price segment. However, I advise all beginners not to use the rum. You have to like the Dictador 12y. Otherwise you won't be happy with the rum.

Soweit so gut.

What a nice drink! The coffee note is very evident at first sip together with maple syrup. The nose is maple syrup dominated. Very different rum with incredible flavour.

Z Kolumbie poznám najme kávu no v tomto rume ju tiež cítiť. Rum je nasládly.
Vôna - jemne nasladla po orechoch a káve.
Chuť - jemne štiplavá - vlašské orechy, kakao, káva, drevo
Odporúčam vyskúšať, za tu cenu super obzvlášť ak máte radi orechy.

The first Solera I really like. Had to give this a good score. Really different flavors that work beautifully together. Coffee, walnut and molasses. The nose is potent with spice and some dark plum notes. Complex and balanced. It would be a 9 for me if it had just a fraction more bite. Smooth. Fills your mouth. Coats the pallet. Nice medium length finish. Very tasty. Very enjoyable. Good neat or on ice. Can’t wait to try the 20 year old. Could there be 2 good Solera system runs out there? I am skeptical but this one has it right.
