This rum is a blend of pot and column still rums from Jamaica, Trinidad and Guyana, matures for up to 12 years in bourbon barrels and then receives a cognac cask finish for 9 months. Bottled at 46% ABV. Sounds interesting in any case.
Nose: honey, caramel, dark chocolate, vanilla. Although it is not supposed to be sweetened, the smell is mild, soft and harmonious.
Palate: indefinable fruit notes that probably come from the Jamaica rum and the cognac barrel. There is a bit of white wine. Or grapes. Light nutty notes and a slightly too dominant alcohol sharpness.
Finish: the finish is long, but unfortunately also indefinable and very dry. Above all, the alcohol sharpness lasts a long time.
Conclusion: the best thing is the nose. It is really very pleasantly sweet and mild, a shame that it doesn't continue like that on the palate. It's still OK, but nothing special and not really definable. The finish is very weak without any highlights. In my opinion, it's too expensive for €55 and not good value for money. Beautiful and unusual bottle made of black clay.
