The very best aroma, taste and smoothness! It's difficult to top this high quality rum.
Got lucky, right place, right time to bag one of these babies! The best £69 i’ll ever spend! Amazing rum
How do Foursquare keep doing it? Another stunning rum, so easy to sip so don’t be put off by the high ABV, compared to many 60% spirits this drinks lower. The past two releases have been more subtle than the prior ones and I think this may not suit people who want their spirits to be “fire water” like in the Bourbon world but for those with a more sophisticated palate their is no doubt these are the worlds best rums. Delicious
As usual, another excellent rum by Foursquare.
On the nose I found brown sugar, some tropical fruit (maybe mango??), citrus, caramel, and maybe some raisins.
On the palate it was sweet, with molasses, cola vanilla and a nice heat. The finish was looooong, with a mild oak and tobacco.
Excellent, but not quite as good as the 2008 in my opinion.
Nice oak flavor. Not too sweet. Best served with fresh lime and just a splash of coke. Delicious.
Při prvním ochutnání mne překvapila vůně i chuť lihu. Poté mne zaujala zvláštní slaboučká nasládlost, kterou ale neustále rušil líh. Oproti FS 2008 se mi zdá více lihový, ačkoliv 60% alkoholu je stejných. Snad si k němu najdu cestu a bude mým dalším oblíbeným rumem.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I think I like the smell best about this. Rich and complex mix of brown sugar, solvent and oak; layered, potent and inviting.
Dipping my nose in the glass, I'm hit with a powerful yet balanced and delicious mix of alcohol and solvent, then the many layered brown sugar, and what I imagine is cognac, arrives.
Taste, initially is all that. Very similar to Doorlys 12 in flavour, but much less sweet, and the brown sugar comes in many layered complexity. Then I swallow and a huge, pretty brutal, burn kicks in, followed finally by the oaky dryness and lip snacking numbness. The finish is long, and dry, with a whiff of brown sugar.
Overall, I love the depth and complexity, but not so much the burn.
Edit. After being given a second bottle, after a couple of months gap, I'm reappraising this. I've learned to take much smaller sips, and really take the time with it. I also had the chance to benchmark it against my previous favourite - Hampden 8YO. Compared to that, the ECS is just richer and deeper. If the Hampden is an 8, the this needs to be my first 9. Now I just need to get a bottle of Hampden Overproof, and compare that!
