Today I have an old PM in my glass. It is not colored like the El Dorado 1997 PM, but natural. So we can expect a bright and herbal PM.
Smell: Typical PM smell that reminds me of RA 1993. Light aromas of vanilla, wood and herbs fill the air first. It is a bit grassy, has a slight honey sweetness and a lot of wood chips with tannins. Overall it is rather reserved and typical for a PM.
Taste: The taste starts off rather less intense with vanilla, herbs and the light wood, slightly bitter.
As the spice rises, tannins, vanilla and anise emerge. Somewhat light-colored fruit such as melon can be noticed and some peppery notes. The rum tingles on the tongue. Wood chips are more noticeable again.
The finish is also spicy with tannins, vanilla, herbs and melon.
Aftertaste: herbs, vanilla, some honey, melon, light tannins and grassy notes
Conclusion: a typical PM without surprises. It is very close to the 1993 RA, I could probably only decide between the two in a direct comparison. Slight weaknesses in the start are to be mentioned and the somewhat too explosive sharpness. I like the colored PMs more.
