A nice smooth rum as a mixer, enjoyable and easy to drink
Bold rum with rich notes of oak, vanilla, and spice. Smooth with a hint of smokiness.
dry and more reminiscent of whiskey.
Enjoyed at the Distillery after taking the tour as part of the premium rum experience. They gave you an unaged blend and then you got to taste the aged product. Pretty interesting concept to distinguish the impact of the barrel and aging.
Pepper and Caramel on the nose. The char is present, with vanilla and banana and coconuts on the palate. Lingers and had has depth to it.
was gifted this on my 60th and so appreciative. I enjoyed going back to this bottle time and time again on those one drink evenings to put the day to a perfect conclusion.
The black barrel definitely adds a layer of smoke / wood flavor and reduces the harsh alcoholic taste that young rums have, good for a dirty mojito or compliment to piña colada.
Very good tasting rum with a heavy aftertaste. One of my favorites.
Pure unadulterated bajan rum. Bourbon drinkers rejoice! At 96 proof it's hot, like a good bottled in bond. I can appreciate that burn! Butter, banana, oak, tobacco, citrus. It's Mt. Gay eclipse bigger brother. Reviews on this are polarized. I can understand why. Bourbon drinkers will love it.
A nice balanced Bajan nose with a little extra spicy kick to it.
"Sipped the Black Barrel certainly gives some of the oaky notes of a bourbon but also makes the mouth water."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I have read so many times in comments and posts about the MG black barrel that I half-heartedly decided to buy it out of curiosity. Without conviction. Everything has probably been written about this rum, so my comment will not be groundbreaking. Fruity, floral scent, I smell orange. Taste is the opposite of smell. I don't smell fruit, I don't smell orange. However, there is pepper and wood. And it's tasty!
The finish could be longer, the taste of wood is strongly felt.
Do I consider purchasing this rum a success? Yes! Although it would probably be even better if it stayed in the barrel longer. I rate it 7.5!
