I am inclined to compare this to Campanero Panama since both have a chocolate theme. This is much weaker in terms of the alcoholic content and also much more chocolatey. In fact Campanero is more like cocoa and this like chocolate.
I wouldn't be inclined to drink this often, but I did find it very enjoyable, even though it is far away from being a traditional rum and I am sure some folks will not think much of it.
The chocolate is very strong on the nose and is the first thing you get on the tongue - but that fades to a rumminess which with a slight burn and warmth is what is left in the aftertaste.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Project # 173 chocolate flavoured rum smells like the powder you use to make the beverage hot chocolate, in other words absolutely luscious. This rum is near perfect. Well I love chocolate and I love rum, so it comes as no surprise to me that I’m in love with this too. Mind you, I do believe it’s a tad on the strong side, at 42%VOL. If this was 38%VOL let’s say, then I’m sure I’d be scoring this a perfect 10. Drank neat the tastebuds get an instant smooth, velvety hit of the chocolate, followed immediately by a slight jarring sensation, caused by the alcohol after burn. Now maybe if this rum was slightly less potent, it would had a smoother finish? As a long drink, mixed with Coca-Cola, this rum for me improves. It still remains lovely and chocolatey, but becomes more polished and effortless to drink. Maybe a bit too easy to drink! I’ll summarise by saying this. If you love chocolate it would be very remiss of you not to give this rum a go. But a word of warning, don’t be fooled into thinking that because this is a chocolate flavoured rum, it won’t get you drunk. Believe me when I say, Project # 173 definitely packs a bunch!
