Continental aging of course. Some continental Monymusk are a bit disppointing when some others are great so... lets see.
I found this one very complex, very well balanced and with no flaws. All the typical Jamaican features are there, both on nose and palate : banana, oily, zesty, thick texture, various over-ripe fruits, green olive, green banana again, pastry, wood and minerals counterbalancing all those fruits. Nose becomes almost creamy with time. The finish is a bit more herbal/medicinal, olives again. Alcohol is well integrated, no water needed. Lot of evolution and subtle flavours with the time... it deserve to rest a little bit, as almost heavy rums.
Well well, that is not bad for a very affordable pricetag !
(Caution, disclaimer etc : this is absolutely not a heavy-sweetened-doctored-syruped light ron. If Zacapa or Diplo is your reference, you will propably not like it at all)
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Pot Still
Distillery: Monymusk
Mark: JMM
Age: 16y (2003 - 2020)
Alcohol: 59,5% vol.
Quite typical Monymusk/Clarendon nose, but very bright and sharp (continental aging). The 16y Plantation one time Vintage Edition is more intensive and has much more anise.
The balance is still good, also in the taste.
The initial taste is very sharp and sour, but fruity. The alcohol is tingling in my mouth.
In the middle the rum opens up with more intensive aromas. I got a medical note first, then orange peels, wood (it's also a little bit bitter, but it suits good).
The finish is more Clarendon/Monymusk than initial taste and the middle. Spice, salt, malt, anise, orange, bitter wood. I like the finish, it's tasty for me. There is much more complexity than on the palet before.
It's not a bad Monymusk and quite complex. But the Plantation is more intensive and smoother.
I like the balance of the aromas in this one, he does not overwhelm. But it's too sharp. Plantation is clearly the better rum. I would rate this one with 82 points.
