We have a light Port Mourant from the wooden pot still. It's the light and young version.
First I get a light and sweet nose with a strong bite, this rum needs time. Aromas are nice, but they all belongs to a young rum. It's not a typical Guyana nose, that I was expected. But there are some small nuances that goes in the direction of Guyana. Maybe we get more of them on the palet.
The rum is tingling of the tongue (strong alcohol, it should be older). First you get a fruity (apples, prune), light sweet taste, followed by the typical Guyana walnuts with iodine. After that the iodine (bitterness) goes away and you have the tasty walnuts on the palet. The finish is balanced, spicy with citrus and some plants, the mouth became almost dry.
The aftertaste is tasty, white fruits followed by the walnuts.
The taste is not bad, again a little bit too young for me. The balance is not bad and the complexity is ok for 9y old Guyana rum. Pity he doesn't have some rich and intensive aromas, but I like it.
Nose: young wood and vanilla, apples, mirabelle and citrus, some pepper, earth, lard
Taste initial: strong and spicy start, citrus, sugar cane, white fruits (prune), some green waltnut (with iodine), alcohol
Middle: iodine, walnut flavor, young wood, tanins
