Foursquare 2008 12-Year

- a lot of flavour compared to many rums, very fresh
- quite strong, but not in a harsh way (good thing)
- a bit complex
- unfortunately the main note is acetone, nail polish remover. I deel dissapointed as I kind of liked Doorlys 12, so I was looking for something darker, not one-dimensional like Doorlys (I find it to have mostly mid notes), with more kick. 2008 does deliver weird kick, but in a bad way in my opinion.

- not fruity, it has some raisins but does not taste like Doorlys line (medium sweet raisins chocolate for me)
- a little bit woody (fresh, not much, definitely not whisky style)
- spicy, chilli, hot (that comes from the alcohol, but thats not always the thing, OFTD or Smith&Cross is not as spicy)

If you don't mind nail polish remover note - that can be quite good, otherwise I think there are better, cheaper alternatives, though I need to admit, most of them don't have that much flavour.
For me, for this price - overrated.

Similar to Detente, but a little bit stronger. And more dry.

Excellent for sip it! This is a must get to have a healthy Rum Cabinet. Puerto Rico rum lover!

From the trio of 2008, Detente and Sagacity this was my least favourite, but still very good and surprisingly smooth considering high voltage.

This is my second foray into Foursquare rums and I am pleased that this is experience is far superior to the last. Unlike the 2007 which felt unfinished with a strong alcohol burn throughout, after giving this 10 minutes to breathe the balanced flavors come out nicely with a nice warm aftertaste. At 60% alcohol it really is great. I prefer sweeter rums in general but this is one I that is worth an exception.

As you can see from my other reviews, I'm a fan of Foursquare, and this release does not disappoint. I sampled some neat and with a little splash, and it was amazing in both instances - depth and precision unmatched in any other producers I've tried so far.

Frankly,I like more those aged in sherry or port casks. Like Empery or Détente. But 2008 is very good rum. I am more on sweeter side but from time to time is nice to change the taste and try something different. Then Foursquare is something you can rely on.

For me it is too strong, but surprisingly not as bad.
