Wanted to give a different spiced rum a shot. Private stock came recommended do picked up a bottle. Glad I did, it's much better than original Captain. Sweet, spicy and the vanilla isn't overpowering.

Nice spice, nice sweet caramel flavour and a good little burn. Many a can of coke and twists of lime have fallen when sailing with the captain! Arrrrrg!

Sweet and lots of vanilla. A great sipper, surprisingly.

I have put off trying this rum for a long time just because of the brand Captain Morgan, I have never purchased a rum from this brand that I enjoyed. This thinking is extremely strong within my rum drinking community, and I am going to have to work to get them to pick up this bottle. This rum is blended and spiced perfectly. Tasting this rum left was an extraordinary experience. Leaving an surprising combination of mildly complex flavors, spices, and surges. It was surprising find to be able to purchase a rum with this complexity for under $22(USD) per bottle.

At first glance i love the look of private stock. However, not my favourite. I would drink this rum to save my more favorable rums. Or, could i say my private stock of rum? Now dont get me wrong its good. But it to me is more of just a drinking rum. Like i never sip this rum. Always put in coke and drank like a beer really. Other rumsare better for sipping than this one. And some are even better for mixing. But if youre a rum fan, and just want something different, non-expensive, with some good quality, to save your other rums for another time, andto mix with coke. This is a perfect rum to do so.

Edit: i love private stock now. I still believe its not a finer rum however, i drink it the most ive come to find. Its cheap. Its tasty, i love to mix it with vanilla coke. I even bought a captain morgan glass just for it. It might not be a first xhoice for some but its a reliable choice for me. Upgrade from a 7 to an 8. Just becsuse of the satisfaction ive gotten from it over time. I have now made it a 9 rating. I love private stock. I keep getting new rums and new rums and it makes me see jow much better private stock is.

I'm not normally a fan of captains, but the Private Stock is one I enjoy! At the price, you don't feel bad mixing it into a cocktail. My favorite is the Captain Jaeger, where you take the captain into a glass of ice, add a splash of Jaegermeister and top of with coke.

Definitely better than regular Captain, but it's really nothing special. I often got this in Korea where rum was hard to find.

If you don't know much about sipping rums, then the Captain Morgan's Private Stock is a great starter to get you away from normal cocktail mixers. It's sweet overtones and mellow, caramel and vanilla aftertastes will set this one apart from it's brethren.

If you've only got 20 bucks and need rum it's not half bad

I really liked this rum, it was good with coke or Dr pepper and great with V8 fruit fusion juice
