I'm guessing the "private stock" refers to their private stock of pancake syrup they add to rubbing alcohol to get this stuff. Comes on very sweet, and thin, finishes with a strong, soulless, alcohol burn. Seems like it would be a lot more tolerable in Coke. Not much else to say. There are far better better spiced rums with less sugar, for less money. Just not a good rum.

This one has taken me totally by surprise. I will admit to thinking that Capt Morgan was just a cheap mixer, until that is I came across this little beauty.Whats not to like about it:

A proper bottle with a proper cork,
Beautiful dark rum colour,
Aroma of all things rummy,
Super smooth with very little burn and a long lingering aftertaste.

If you haven’t tried this, I would suggest that in a blind tasting, as in “ pick out the Capt Morgan”, you would be very hard pressed to do so.
It compares for smoothness and taste with rums costing much more and dare I say it, from more established distilleries.
Do not insult this with anything other than ice/water.
Try, you won’t be disappointed.
Cheers graham.

This is my brother-in-law's favorite and I've never purchased a bottle for myself. I give it to him as a gift and simply drink his. I have not tried sipping it and it is not on my wish list. I like the cork thus the high rating.

This used to be something around my friends that if you had a bottle everyone would flock over to get there hands on it... but now that I have been drinking rum in a total separate realm Private Stock reminds me on sugar laden rubbing alcohol. Give this to your "friends" who are just going to add Coke to it anyway.

I got this as a wedding gift and is what got me into rum. At the time thought it was the beat thing ever. After tasting other rums I still like it but there are better ones out there.

Very sweet, tried different mixers and still couldn't enjoy it. Finished the bottle while on a vacation only because it was the last rum and nearest store was 60 miles away.

Vanilla prominent / sweet brown sugar and dark molasses. Private stock is sweet spicy and easy to drink neat. Lovely aroma. This is a smooth sipper that tastes above it's price range.

This was honestly one of the best rums I've ever tasted. Great on the rocks.

Having been a single malt Scotch islay (LaPhroig Lore at $140 a bottle) kinda gal, and high end Tequila (think Herradura reposada muy anejo at $365 a pint) this is an amazing bang for the buck. An incredible burnt sugar marries allspice with telicherry pepper burn at the end. Do you need to know more? We drink it neat.
