Hi all, in Punta Caña airport last year on way home, I was also not impressed with the “duty free” selection. Wandering around the area I bit miffed I also stumbled across “ the little everything Dom Rep “ area. Picked up Optimus 18 for 55 US Agree with every one else, look around local shops/stores and pick up bargains. Enjoy graham. ...

Hi Oliver, I couldn't find any information, but it definitely looks like a rebranded product. http://el-descorche.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/a01746ab1f9f46d31733abd06651150e/i/m/img_6391.jpg http://el-descorche.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/a01746ab1f9f46d31733abd06651150e/i/m/img_6365.jpg Perhaps some information on a German rum forum? http://rumcommunity.de/foru...

For whatever it's worth, representatives with Watlings informed me that they are working on a distributorship in Florida. They were hoping to set it up in 2016 but clearly have not done so. I managed to bring back two bottles of the BV with me when my wife and I went to the Bahamas late last year and made the mistake of staying at Atlantis (a huge rip-off IMHO)....

Ron Botran 1893 Solera Rum would be my choice for right at $35. Dictador 12 is another fine rum at that price. The Real McCoy 12 is a fine no sugar or color added rum at that price point. Kirk & Sweeney 18 is great but you better love caramel and vanilla. and lastly the Dictador 100 month series of rums I really enjoy very much. cheers!...

Sadly, it is far beyond just personal preference or the lack of an ingredients list for rum. It is a matter of legality. The regulations are clear: sugar is a flavoring, and if added the rum MUST be labeled as a "flavored rum", and with the primary flavoring identified. Example: "Sweet Surprise" or "Vanilla Flavored Rum". To fail to do so is a violation. Unfortunately the TTB tend to ...

So glad for this informative post. Relatively new to appreciating rums on a finer level (though I've long enjoyed them as an 'amateur'). Overall, I'm glad to have a reason to avoid a lot of expensive additive-laden junk. ...

I'll admit I've tried it a few times, but honestly couldn't tell a difference. That said, I'm not a super taster by any extent - I do wonder if they work in general, and with rum specifically...?...

There seem to be a ton of small US based distilleries popping up all over the east coast. I don't have any specific to recommend, but I'm guessing local stores may have some of these you could check out. A good one I've tried is New Orleans rum - not sure if that would be carried in NYC though....

I've been happy with the Glencairn as well. I'ts a good cheap glass. However, I recently came across https://shopriedel.com/vinum-xl-aquavit-spirits-glass.html I bought 4 glasses because it was on sale at the local shop. I'ts a stemmed glass, lies perfect in the hand and with a great balance. The shape really brings out the nose of the rum. It was originally made for aquavit, but is great for...
