Thank you Martin and Stefan. That is great information. Sadly I donβt think I have much access to Guadeloupe Agricoles in my state. Maybe I could try to order it? My state is strange about it rules regarding ordering alcohol. It seems I canβt have it delivered to my house, but I can have it delivered to a pick up facility. ...

I never drink with ice. As said above it masks the flavours. If it's a good rum I'd rather heat it slightly to bring forth all that tastiness. If it's a worse rum that needs ice I stay clear of it all together...

Hi Paul, I'm amazed about your work on rum, it seems you are Mr. Statistics on this site, don't get me wrong, it's cool ! But what about the rarity of a rum ? I have/had rum from independent bottlers, sometimes 250 bottles filled, what about this factors ? And yes, the Price says Nothing about the taste. A friend of mine bought a bottle of the El Dorado Rare Collection Albion 2004. What a sugar...

Harrie: Smith & Cross is shipped from Jamaica and bottled in the UK, which explains the Hampden connection that you mentioned earlier. Having been to Jamaica twice, I never could get over how the original British ownership of that island still lingers to this day. Modern Jamaica has absolutely nothing to do with Great Britain....

My review of Doorly's 12 year may be biased. After three days of partaking in legal cannabis edibles in Las Vegas, it was finally time to come down. My opinion has changed from legalizing it to just decriminalizing it. The USA does not need any more lazy good for nothing folks who are always stoned. At any rate, the Doorly's 12 year was my rum of choice to get back to normal. And due to it bei...

Ian H: I know that you asked for a list, but I have almost 200 rums in my spreadsheet with known amounts of added sugar. Eight of them are considered flavored since they have more than 50 gpl of added sugar. I have 91 rums listed and varying between 45 gpl and 2 gpl of added sugar. Captain Morgan Private Stock is the worst offender with Zacapa 23 hot on it's heels. I also have 91 rums with abso...

Best bet is Louisville, thereβs a restaurant next to the big statue of David called Proof on Main that has a good selection a lot of foursquares etc and they referred me to a little known fine spirits store close by that they get their rum from, Iβd call them and ask. Cheers!...

Immiketoo: A couple of days ago you posted about your taste moving from Don Papa to Mount Gay XO (Gateway Rum) and maybe it is time you move away from sweetened rums period. But also when you drink just dry rums the fact remains, as Paul B mentioned, that mood and food are a major factor. Especially outspoken flavours will only work when you are in the mood for them. Example; I have a soft s...

Harrie, I will fully admit to being a coffee snob, as I too have graduated away from sugar in my coffee and I prefer it done properly. Itβs funny, since I never drank coffee before moving to Europe, as most coffee in the USA is sock juice filtered through a jock strap! My girlfriend says sheβs created a monster, and Iβm ok with that. As for rum, Iβm on my way past 700 euros of bottles on my...

Hi everyone, thanks again for the input! I've just rolled out an update so only members with 5 or more ratings are counted in averages. 5 can easily change to 3, 7, or whatever minimum rating number makes the most sense... I thought even a 'fake' rater might rate a few rums quickly, but they're unlikely to rate 5 (from what I've seen). You'll find the https://rumratings.com/brands/6691-candela-...

The sweetest was A. H. Riise Navy rum, those clock about 110 g/l, is like sugar syrup, and has no business called "navy", or "rum". But the absolutely sweetest rum was Havana club 7y into which I was gradually adding sugar by a teaspoon, wanting to find out how much you can add before it actually becomes unpalatable. Turns out you can add quite a lot. Eventually, you will get your Zacapa/Diplo...

Probably any of the top 4 in the aged rum category would be an 'improvement' on the Don Papa 10-year. https://rumratings.com/brands?order_by=&letter=&min_rating=&search=&rum_type=Aged&location=&company_id=. They're all on the sweeter side like the Don Papa, but probably each has a little more 'character'. ...

Harrie: I started out more than two years ago on this site and was also initially inspired by the sugar bombs with the most number of ratings. Early on, I decided to try a dry rum called Don Q Gran Anejo and did not like it at all. At that point, I put a $50 US limit on any rum that I was willing to try, all because of what I had paid for that Don Q. BIG MISTAKE!! By the way, it took me only 5...

Harrie: Totally agree! If some rums can get away with adding their favorite pancake syrup instead of granulated sugar, then so can we. I recently tried making a Cuban daiquiri with cane syrup instead of simple syrup. That was NOT a good idea. The trick is to find the best tasting dry rums from reading lots of these reviews. And then one has no need to add sugar....

DFW.TX: I also originally considered Blackwell's Reserve to not be a spiced rum, especially since it beat out another sample at a bar when compared to Appleton 21. However, after several bottles of Blackwell's at home, my internal plumbing does not lie. It is slightly spiced. Chis Blackwell is a legend in the music industry and could probably get away with this. By the way, he had Joy Spenc...
