8,4:On the nose, the first attack is with glue, esters and lots of dried fruits.
When we overcome this, we get some roasted notes with some pastry, nuts, nice gingerbread and fruitcake with red fruits marmelade, overripe exotic fruit, the rum becomes a bit spicy with cinnamon and herbal.
Aeration brings some marzipan, camphor, teranino, griotte chocolate. If well rested, punchy notes are here and now more overripe fermented tropical fruits with little funkiness.Oxydation and rest make this rum balanced and pleasant.
8,5:On the palate, the first profile is a bit roasted and medicinal, as it is gluey. When it settles down, there is a fruit cake with red fruit marmelade, some overripe exotic fruits and chocolate...Metallic notes crawl in, the rum becoming more spicy with sweet spices and yummy with nice caramelized pastry. We find some sour cherry, plum wine, teranino and iced chocolate cubes. We cannot overcome dryness and strong molasses with minty touch. When well rested, nice fermented, overripe exotic fruits arise. The rum is now a bit dirty, smoky, more funky and rich with even some umami notes, nicely balanced and tasty.
8,4:The finish is long, dry but light and fresh with dried and red fruits, as berries and in the end more roasted, smoky and toasted with some fruit cake and overripe tropical fruits.
Papillon is a brand from Carrere/Montebello exclusively made for the European market. It’s a little bit sweeter than their regular range and are also aged in former Cognac barrels.
It’s quite many years since they stopped produced this one and it’s younger version.
At the nose I got a feeling that it’s younger than it really is. It’s fruity and woody with aromas of chocolate and raisins.
At the palate it’s also fruity, sweet and woody with flavors of chocolate, prunes, toffee, oak and cognac.
During the rather long finish the flavors still remain, but instead of sweetness it’s rather dry.

Slušný dominikánský rum s neobvyklým nádech tequily, rozhodně doporučuji ochutnat.
8,8:On the nose, the first impression we get is a great Trinidadian rum. The rum is all fruity, just a bit vegetal, with sweet notes of plum, pear and quince jam.Over time, it thickens with beeswax and cane. There's pleasant smokiness, tarry notes with gourmand chocolate.
Aeration brings out toasty woodiness, again ripe, stewed fruit come around, as banana, mango, some passion fruit and tangerine, other citrus, very tasty. Spices and licorice molasses, some roasted palate with coffee, caramelized burnt sugar arise when rum is well rested. Heavy industrial notes are gone now with some tannins left
8,8:The attack on the palate is light, with molasses and caramel and strong, ripe fruits and is citrusy. The Trinidadian character is present but rounded, the molasses is both woody and licorice-like. The palate is complex with the vegetal side added. The rum then melts into fruit jam, the quince blending well with the slightly burnt, metallic and smoky side.
8,6:The finish is balanced, Trinidadian character is omnipresent until the end of the tasting.
👌😋.
Umělá juice chuť jahod, která mi normálně vadí, tady to ovšem působí velkou funky zábavou. Savanny buďto nesnáším nebo miluju, tuhle miluju.
Já tam mám zas, pro mnohé láhvne savanny, typické chutě, což jest zelený vlašský ořech.
Rozinky, štavnaté hrozny, trocha kůže. Tohle je nuda.
Destilováno 2006 a zrálo 17 let.
Vanilla, potpourri and tangerine peel. Dark copper pour. Some oak on the finish. Pretty pleasant solo.
The bottle is covered with a plastic foil so it would look like something fancy or something extra. Not a good sign. Also the name of the rum tries to give a picture of it self as something mysterious and almost out of reach. After the first taste it should have stayed that way. I had difficulties to find out a way to get it into my system without getting ill because of that unpleasant taste.
Exceptionally smooth with a subtle hint of spice on the finish. An incredible value—easily one of the top rums available for under $100!
I'm running out of options at my one door store and knew I would be trying this sooner or later. So here we are, later! This one is not worthy at $50+. It would be worthy at $30. It definitely spent time in a cask which is immediately evident but after the wood is just goes completely flat with an overwhelming alcohol presence. I've been told that with Appleton if you don't spend over $100 you will not get their premium product. This I can now confirm. I had their Joy and that was off the charts but this is a total waste. I will blend and experiment with less expensive rums, which IMO are way better, to see if I can help this out. Certainly will not revisit! Update, I blended this with Ron Barrilito only because they both have the same ABV. I blended 1/8 of Barrilito with 7/8 Appleton. That took the alcohol bite right out of it and there's just a faint sign of the sherry finish from Barrilito which smoothed it right out although it still falls flat but at least its smoother and easier to consume. And, no, I still will not be repurchasing anything Appleton.
Tasted at First Ward in St. Joseph MO on 8-26-24. Found an old bottle of this (see photo) on the back row at the oldest bar west of the Mississippi. Pours a deep golden color. Aroma of honey, mild hogo, and straw. The palate is way thicker than I expected and the heat suggests stronger than 80 proof. Does not taste funky, but brings a light scotch whisky with mild candy sweetness. Perhaps a bit oxidized, but I’ll take that for a chance to drink vintage rum.
Lautoka Dark 16-Year Rum offers a unique and complex flavor profile that's sure to intrigue. The nose is initially met with a pleasant smokiness, reminiscent of a well-aged whiskey. There's also a strong acridity.
On the palate, the smokiness continues to be a prominent feature, balanced by a subtle sweetness. The finish is long and lingering, with a distinctive acetone aftertaste that bears a striking resemblance to Bundaberg rum. This aftertaste might not be for everyone.
A v chuti prave ta karamelovost, chut trstiny, malinko sudu a vzadu mozno nejake ovocie a vanilka.
Za cenu 22eur vobec nie zly kauf, a ked si to tam vedla toho flor de cana tak som akurat nasraty ze som to vobec kupoval :D :D
Thoughts: A decent entry but a bit overpowering on the spices but impressive entrant for an English rum. £38 for the bottle makes it a rum you really want to try or really like. The rich rum is very much lost in the spice which is a shame - tone it down a little and you could taste more of it and for longer. The more you drink of it, the more overpowering the spice is, shame.

Smell - Strong orange peel smell, sweet, nutmeg
Taste - Mild burn, nutmeg, strong spiciness from cloves
After Taste - Medium length, dominated by spice with hints of orange
A wonderful example of Jamaican goodness from Worthy Park. As far as value goes, I like this rum way better than more expensive Jamaican rums I have in my cabinet. I started with a tasting last night and was impressed so much by the flavor. It's kind of like what I imagine the perfect Jamaican rum to be. It's been aged just long enough to keep the heat and bite to a minimum. There's a sweetness here and a wonderful fruit factor as well. The funk factor is perfect. Definitely plenty of funk/hogo to please any Jamaican fan but it's done with balance and not at all over the top. I think this is my new fave rum. Going to try it in a Mai Tai tonight.
7,4:On the nose, it is light, the first impression is like we scent Islay whisky, but just for short, because then agricole steps in with Martinique volcanique notes. Fruits (grape and prune) and nuts (hazelnut and almond) are the omnipresent on this nose, when aired a bit. Caramel is also here, as some herbal and woody notes. Becomes dry, some roastedness is here.
7,5:On the palate, there is also fruity, there is grapefruit, and dry with some honey, agricole is mainstay, with Martinique volcanique notes and is flowery, perfumed. A hint of pepper makes some presence, as saltiness and wood. Nicely round and balanced, with minimal acidity.
7,1:The finish is medium, a bit thin and dry, pepper spicy with dried fruits.
Thoughts: Very surprised for an English rum and one that is obviously manufactured but it is subtle whilst being slightly complex as well having two different elements: the cinnamoned orange peel and then a vanilla'd pineapple on the finish. £30 for a bottle, it's a great party rum that doesn't seem to take itself too seriously but can hold a place in our cupboard.
Rating: 7/10
Smell - Strong pineapple with a hint of toasted pineapple, sweet, vanilla, orange
Taste - cinnamon orange peel with a cheeky spice
After Taste - Short lived with pineapple and vanilla
Sampled at First Ward on 8-26-24. Pours amber in color. Likely lots of caramel coloring. Aroma is synthetic vanilla and nutmeg. Flavor is also mostly a burnt vanilla, but some ginger and coriander as well. This is by no means a good rum, but is a little bit better than the bottom shelf swill where its neighbors reside.
