Rene, It fits in both places! Itโs great sipping neat and probably one of the best and most used high quality mixer rums. Cause youโd like it Iโm sure you will love the Rum Fire and the Rivers Antoine if you can find them....

Romantic, Yes, the independent bottlers sells often very good and special rum, but I think they oftenly is too expensive. If I want pot still rum I buy rum from Worthy Parks or Hampdens own range and if I want Navy rum I buy Pusserโs. About EBay, Yes, I have made a couple of good purchases from there. For example one bottle of English Harbour Extra Old for just โฌ60. The only one thatโs for sa...

Francesco, Unfortunately can we just dream of that the producers, especially those who produce Spanish styled rum, will be honest and write out everything on the label. The only way to get to know about added sugar is to make hydrometer tests by oneself, cause many of the results on the web aren't valid anymore since the relatively new EU regulations....

I recommend buying a solid overproof like Wood's Navy Rum, or Pusser's Gunpowder and cook with that, you need less due to the concentrated flavor and aroma, and it provides plenty of that "rummy" punch. ...

If you want something made as it was done centuries ago you should try to find a bottle of โRivers Antoine Royal Grenadian Rumโ which is more or less done the same way as when they started up 1785. The cane is crushed in a water driven mill. They use copper pot stills. Itโs wild fermented and they donโt have any temperature control. Finally they take the distillate directly to a cooler, dilute i...

Paul, the smart phone is nearly as capable as any home computer these days, especially if you consider the photography, spreadsheet and document apps available. RumGuy, Well, these cognacs should be OK because it's XO, but it's cognac from the big houses and is overpriced in my opinion. I prefer cognac from the small houses like Hine or Delamain made from grapes from Grande Champagne. About Agricole I would say that they differ quite a lot. I havenโt tasted any from outside the Caribbean so I donโt have any opinion about them. The Barbancourt fro...

@Rene Rum Well, I must say I have never thought about diluting a whole bottle - because once you overdilute, there is no way back, and because overproof rum lasts longer, ethanol is its own preservative, and because in the moment of dilution, the aromatic compound forced out of the alcoholic solution amplify the scent of the rum - and you don't want to lose that moment. That's why absinthe is sol...

No problem, it's a Hampden mark. HLCF -> Hampden Light Continental Flavoured -> 500-700 esters in g/hlaa. It describes the ester content. ElD is always a mystery, they keep their secrets. They have new packaging, also in Europe, but still with 43%. I think there is no market with supply of two versions. Each market gets its own version. EU 43% and US 40%. Was the 40% ElD as sweet as the old version? https://www.weisshaus.de/details/el-dorado-rum-15-yo-43-vol.-0-70l...

kudzey: Bacardi quit making their 151 rum some time ago because it was not selling. Therefore, almost any discontinued item will possibly become a collector's item even if it was crap. I have some music CD's that are total crap, but used copies are going for hundreds of dollars....

Looking for a generic answer does not seem to make much sense. What people seem to forget is the fact that tropical aging is about twice faster than continental aging, which already creates a significant spread. A rum aged on Barbados for five years may have similar cask influence as a rum aged in England for 10 years. I have noticed Jamaican-style Plummer and Wedderburn high-ester rum (same stock...
