Harrie: It is extremely rare for me to like the first sip from a new bottle of rum and then like it even more as the bottle slowly empties. Sugar bombs are notorious for slowly degrading and I just don't buy them any more. On the flip side, it is also extremely rare for me to get pissed off and pour the whole bottle down the drain. I have become a master of saving really bad rums from going to ...

I would not pay so much money for that one. It's 7-23 years, so maybe anywhere between 12-14 years. It's also a multicolumn distillation, so we can't expect a complex profile. I would buy for that money a real >20y old aged rum. https://thefatrumpirate.com/bacardi-facundo-exquisito-rum "It’s not terribly complex or nuanced. The finish is fairly long but again it’s not really doing a great de...

I got my bottle from France. It’s honestly beyond my comprehension at this point. I had a small taste from my bottle and I started a review of it, but stopped because I just didn’t know what to say yet. Highly worth getting one, if you can. I hope to be able to cope with mine soon!...

By far my favorite distillery. There is a crispness to these bottles that allows each flavor to stand alone while also blending perfectly with the others. As mentioned before, the ECS bottlings are not for the beginner, unless that beginner has experience with high ABV expressions. They are a test of your fortitude, but once you get used to them, 40% bottles leave you a bit flat. My curr...

I thought they protected already the use of origin but WIRD was not satisfied with all points. https://www.thespiritsbusiness.com/2020/06/producers-clash-over-a-gi-for-barbados-rum/ “It is long overdue that Barbados rum is protected in global markets, and the tool to do that is a GI,” says Seale. “At the moment, the consumer can buy a Barbados rum based on our reputation but end up with a substa...

Indeed. Bacardi ownes Barrilito. Damn. I like Barrilito. It is a great sipper. Bacardi was always a no go for me. But than again Bacardi ownes over 200 brands. The big eat the small ones. https://www.forbes.com/sites/taranurin/2019/04/28/members-of-the-worlds-biggest-rum-family-work-to-preserve-a-centuries-old-competitor/...

LOL this blog is a great read. I have not balled up to make my own blend yet I want to get a charred oak mini barrel first to age it a month or two. I guess the real magic comes down to quantity of each, equal or keep mixing by taste. I did create my own rum punch recipe for my 60th birthday though, Only took 3 blends to nail it Jimbo Punch. Not sure I remember who to make it now but not equal qua...

Each release is a little bit different in terms of design and taste. You should buy all of them to have a full set. I've bought up to 8 bottles of certain rums like Black Tot 50th. This is a unique rum, it will not be released again. You don't loose anything if you buy good rum. You can sell it later if you don't want it and in the most cases you will earn some money....

RR was built to be a community where members learn from and engage with each other. I’ve thought about allowing private reviews that don’t add to the averages, but it felt like more of a personal note book. Please do feel free to rate in whatever language you feel most comfortable, one of these days I’ll get around to some kind of translator system :)...

I found a bottle of Chairman's Forgotten Cask this afternoon. My review will be forthcoming. It should tide me over until I can get my hands on my first bottle of 1931. I actually have a local store manager trying to find me two bottles of this rum so I don't have to drive about 500 miles. I REALLY don't want to drive that far, but it is near that old pirate haunt that I love so much. Anytime tha...

Paul, Well, I’m not saying that the US produced rum they call Agricole is better or worse than the French products, but what I know is that they can’t produce AOC Rhum cause that can only be produced in Martinique according to the AOC. About the other Agricole produced in the other French Overseas Departments I’m not sure but they probably follow GI’s, which I haven’t read, which makes it impos...

I agrees what vomi and Stefan says. Next step could be some demerara style rum. I bought the Rum Nation Guyana 10 years, it´s truly a nice sipper. But also what Stefan said about the Rum Maelcon rare proof, also a great sipper. Just got the Doorley´s 14 (from Foursquare) home too, my oo my what a rum :D...

@RumGuy The Centuria is probably the best Abuelo, but I hardly think it’s worth the money for me that not fancy the sweet rums very much anymore. But I still like Zafra, so who knows, I might like it. I will not hesitate to taste it if I get a chance, but I will not buy me a bottle cause I think it’s too expensive to take a chance on....

Kamamura: Most bars in the USA assume that most rum drinkers don't give a rat's ass about which rum that they drink or get in their mojito or other mixed drink. With this basic assumption, it is simply not cost effective to stock premium rums for the mostly bourbon drinking public where I live. However, specially designated rum bars will pride themselves in their expensive rum collection. There...

The Cuban Daiquiri has taken on a new approach this year with Mardi Gras basically being cancelled due to the pandemic. So a few companies have created King Cake Syrup which can be used instead of simple syrup to make Cuban Daiquiris. One of the better ones is from Cocktail & Sons and lists for $15 for an 8 ounce bottle. It is basically simple syrup with lots of cinnamon, pecan extract, and ...

You may also want to try the very tasty Plantation 3-Star Artisinal Rum. This is technically an aged rum with the color removed through filtration and then a small amount of sugar is added. It has morphed from being semi-dry when I first tried it 3 years ago (13 gpl of added sugar) to now being dry at 9 gpl of added sugar. The sugar police like to put it down, but this is one mighty tasty rum. And...
