I did already catch the Plantation Original Dark (17,89 € / 1 litre in Germany) with my eye, so I think that'll be my choice for now. The Myers (16,89 € / 1 litre) might also be an option. It's like the Rolling Stones sing: You can't always get what you want....

for me i don t look at same country pairing, i look more sweet rum with sweet cigar or sweet and not sweet contrast, when i started this thread few days ago i was trying an oliva robusto serie g (not so sweet cigar like cubans are naturally sweet, it s a nicaraguan, medium strength but good and affordable as a daily smoke) paired with a brugal 1888, it was a nice contrast ......

here a mount gay 1703 master select cost around 180$ and the XO triple cask around 55$, a yamazaki 12 around 330$, a remy martin XO around 160$, but ok a francois voyer XO around 80$ so i m thinking that distance is a key factor about the price, what comes from another continent is more expensive ... another factor: how much a nation imports also is important, cheaper spirits in europe you can...

I first tried it a number of years ago at the UK Rumfest and thought it was one of the best rums I've ever tried. Bought a bottle maybe 1 yr ago and it's not as good as I remember. Maybe I have bad memory (certainly possible) or maybe it has changed......

we use (other than russian standard) also grey goose, beluga, belvedere and ciroc as high enders but i have to say that maybe you pay more because of their good marketing strategy, because russian standard is 4 times distilled, top quality water used ... it s not inferior to other brands we sell but it cost 1 third, oh ciroc was chosen just for his particularity, is derived from grapes and this...

I personally use Myer's Dark rum for most of my mixed drinks, I think it tastes great in a rum and coke and anything else i've ever used it for and is not too expensive. Captain Morgan really wasn't intended for stand alone drinking, I wouldn't recommend it. I don't use high quality aged rums for mixing, there would be no point in paying 3x or more what a bottle of Captain Morgan costs or any othe...
