Barcelo Imperial

On the nose this rum does not offer much, it smells of alcohol and a touch of sweetness. The taste follows suit and comes out sweet right out of the gate before becoming a bit hot and harsh. It finishes with in similar fashion. More of a mixer than a sipper. But if your in the mood for a lower price sipping right this will do just fine.

This one needs to sit in the glass for 10 minutes or so for the alcohol to dissipate a bit to allow the caramel and other notes to come alive. Smooth on the mouth. I do not like to use ice so I use a straw to add a few drops of water which allows it to open up.

It might be the charred oak flavor that makes this rum taste like a 9-volt battery on my tongue, but there's something too acidic here. Barcelo is surprisingly miserable tasting for a regular proofed rum. It also has the unfortunate habit of an unforgiving burn halfway down. Its shelf appeal may be more boutique than pirate, not that there's anything wrong with that, but this rum completely sucks. Mix with fruit juice and ice and serve to people you will never see again!

7.5 for me. As far as Dominican rum goes this rum is seconded by some other rums like Brugal. But at half the price. Not to sweet or to dry rum that is great to share with friends (and not to hard on your wallet). Overall a great rum to get and I'm happy to have a bottle in my collection.

No bad. Fairly smooth, but not the carmel type taste that I generally prefer.

Fľaša: Prepracovanosť tu je vidieť v každom detaile. Logo producenta rumu, ozdoba korku hrdla fľaše, zaoblené hrany, proste krásna fľaša, len neviem, stále mi to nejako nepríde ako fľaša určená pre rum.

Vôňa: trocha mi tu prebíja alkoholová vôňa ale je tu cítiť vôňa bielej čokolády. Trocha hrozienka ale je to aj ťažšia vôňa, ktorá sa prejaví aj na chuti.

Chuť: čokoláda, trocha korenia ale veľmi zamatová chuť, skôr niečo krémovejšie. Pre mňa chuť prebíja alkohol.

Záver: rum ma nenadchol, neprekvapil, je chutnejší ako Gran anejo ale nie je to moje pravé orechové. Aj keď som ho chcel ochutnať, stačí raz a dosť. Veľmi krémový rum.

Barcelo Imperial

Bought a bottle of Barcelo Imperial based on recommendation from Liquor Store employee and ratings from this website. First and foremost this rum is not sweetened with added sugar or other additives and the attractive packaging is definitely another plus. Found this rum to be an easy sipper but not complex. Better rums are available in the same price range.
