Barbancourt 5 Star Reserve Especiale 8-Year Rum is agricultural, meaning it's produced from fermented sugar cane juice rather than the more typical molasses. The sugar cane juice is double distilled and aged for eight years in Limousin oak barrels.
Dupré Barbancourt created the Barbancourt rum recipe in 1862 in Haiti, where the rum is still produced today. A French national, Barbancourt incorporated traditional French methods including double-distillation in the process.

Light amber, faint nose, but nicely balanced and very easy to sip. A very good value.
A good Agricole Rhum (not my cup of tea) but goes well on the Cuba Libre… a bit spicy and harsh typical from these types of rums.
Great rum!! Really good for the price, dry rum!!!!!
I don’t hate this rum. I think for an agricole priced under $30 it’s a decent value. I’ve come to enjoy it most neat.
This is a decent agricole rum but I definitely wanted more. It's reasonably smooth (little burn,) moderately priced and decently flavored (although it does have a bite to it.) Not a bad rum (in fact, it's pretty good,) but considering its aging and prestige, I was definitely hoping for better. Still, it's worth a try!
The best tasting rum for the price 1000000%. 8 year aged rum for $31 bucks in CA. Sugar cane so it's extra sweet.
I bought this as a lark not expecting a whole lot and was shocked at just how good it was. The nose isn't much...a little bit of oak with just a hint of sugar cane in the background. The taste is smooth and mellow with a fair amount of heat. I taste the sugars and caramel and even a hint of banana. It is a very unique flavor of rum which I really enjoy at a very reasonable price. Add just two or three drops of water and it mellows even more nicely.
It is one of the better cane juice type rums I have tasted because it has lost the strongest of the grassy flavors, which I am not a fan of. Having said that, I am doubtful that they age all of the Rhums involved in this bottling for 8 years. The nose is astringent and the taste has some mellower characteristics but not enough to compensate.
"palate is powerful, smooth, and well-balanced'"

Nose is surprisingly “molasses” like.
"Nice citrus notes, a little lime, a hint of lemon moving onto a more fruity green grapes."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I picked this one up when I was finding it difficult to find a true rhum agricole. I don't enjoy it neat, but I really enjoy it with a Mexican coke and another rum.
