Dozvuk: Trpké dřevo, rozinky a hodně sherry, středně dlouhý
Sladkost: 1/3
Vzorek #11 na RumFest Praha 2020
Sympatický rum. Vůně nic moc, ale vynahrazuje to chuť a výrazný sherry dozvuk. Lehký nadprůměr 7,5b.
The Don Q Double Aged Rum Sherry Cask Finish from Puerto Rico is a molasses blend that was allowed to be stored in bourbon barrels for 8 years and than got its finish in Oloroso sherry barrels. The Don Q enjoys a good reputation because the rum is produced sustainably and fairly and a high quality standard applies. The rum was bottled with 41% after about 10 years. The information on the bottle makes the rum transparent and give a lot of information.
The Don Q is not strong in the nose. There are light fruit notes, some sweetness and caramel. Light wood notes and very subtle spice sway along. On the palate, the rum offers a very precise picture with light fruit, raisins, vanilla and oak. The sherry notes give a natural sweetness but are not intrusive. The finish is medium-long with classic spicy barrel notes and also some sharpness.
The Don Q is a solid rum that does a lot right. There's a bit of a kick missing and he's a bit to nice. But i liked it a lot. For me it was the Nummer 2 at the Wagemut Tasting. A straight Rum. Will definitely try the Single Barrel 2009 in Cask Strength. It is very attractive for approx. 45Euro.
It’s pretty classic Don Q Gold with a little more to offer. Notes of Apricot, almond, and toffee. An easy sipper.
I got mine at the PR airport a few years back, along with the Vermouth version. A little warm on the finish, but a subtle fruity sherry flavor on the palate. A little different sherry present, compared to scotch. But if you like sherry, this could be a good addition. On the nose I get sweet chocolate and sherry, lovely color. The palate is smooth and sweet, with a little lingering heat on the back end. The Sherry influence is good, not overpowering. A nice sipping treat from Don Q for an affordable price. I got my bottle at the PR Airport during a special, two for $80 or so.
It’s a sweet, perfumed nose with lots of juicy fruits and some really floral notes.
"The finish is a good length- nice fade of the sweet notes which rubs alongside the wonderful spicy notes from the oak ageing. It’s long lasting and leaves a really nice flavour in the mouth."

Sherry and caramel on the nose, smooth taste, almost liqueur, sherry and red wine on the finish
