Santa Teresa 1796 rum is produced in Venezuela and aged using the solera system that blends rums aged between 4 and 35 years. Before bottling, the rum is aged for a further year in large French oak casks to marry the blends.
This rum was first created in 1996 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the distillery, the Santa Teresa Hacienda.

This rum is super smooth. Not crazy sweet like some other rums. Enjoyed this neat. Theres a slight caramel taste but nothing that stands out too much. Evenly balanced rum. Would drink again.
This is not spectacular
But it’s not offensive. Perfectly acceptable sipper while relaxing on the patio after a good meal.
Easy to drink and really smooth taste. The only negative thing in my opinion is that the taste disappears fast. Good and not to sweet taste.
Did a blind taste with others. This was really nice, but not tops
Not like an aperitif like many sweeter rums, but perfectly smooth
flavorful but boozy. not bad, but there are many better rums available, especially at $47US.
Paid overseas in a duty free way more than it worth it.
Is a good rum...but I think is very dependent of the release year. Is not consistent as you expect. Batch to batch experience might differ.
I will try another bottle soon and I will update my review if things will be different.
For now...vanilla, caramel and citrus fruits are the most noticeable for me. For my taste a bit smother will be better.
Nose: Honey, Vanilla, Cinnamon, Buttered Toast
Palate: Vanilla, Honey, Cinnamon, molasses, oak, just a hint of roasted chilli peppers
Finish: Cinnamon, Oak, and Molasses
This is an ok rum. Its not a crazy exotic funk rum, but it doesn't try to be. This knows exactly what it wants and gets straight to the point. This is enjoyable enough to sip on slowly. The nose is Honey, Vanilla, Cinnamon, and I pick up just a hint of something I can't quite put my finger on, maybe buttered toast. The palate gives you exactly what the aroma says and is refreshingly direct. On the palate, just as the nose, I get strong Vanilla, Honey, and Cinnamon notes accompanied by deep molasses and oak. I also get just a slight faint hint of roasted chili peppers.
This rum has a rich mouthfeel to it and its flavors are deep. The aftertaste is unfortunately shorter than I anticipated but is a consistent and pleasant combination of molasses, oak, and cinnamon profile. In many respects this rum is like Diplomatico but less sweet. All in all it is a somewhat enjoyable experience even if it doesn't have anything especially exotic. After trying some 75+ rums now this doesn’t rate as high as it used to. It is the quintessential Latin American rum, with minimal dosing. Unfortunately it doesn’t mix that well in comparison to others while being a bit too flat as a sipper.
The Rum Barrel Review
"On the nose there’s a lovely dark profile. Fresh ground coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, vanilla, plums. There are some tropical fruits like pineapple and passion fruit, followed by a slight grassy note. Nutmeg, old leather, tobacco and white pepper. On the palate it goes down so easy. Milk chocolate, vanilla, honey, mango, toffee and cashews. Canned pineapple, blackcurrant, coconut cream and coca cola. The tobacco note is back along with some cinnamon. Not crazy sweet, fairly well balanced and easy going. Cocoa butter and orange marmalade. Towards the end is where you get a bit more oak spices and some alcohol heat. The finish is short with cocoa nibs, some oak tannins and maple syrup."
Has a nice light sweet vanilla note.
"Spicy notes and a oaky lavour are very pleasant and not overpowering."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
