thats what a person buying that rum would say ,,, its the training wheel of rums ,, drink it ,, get an idea of what a rum is ,,, then put the empty bottle down and move on to a real rum ,,, your training is over
King of the mixers. Everytime Im drinking rum with coke etc. This is the go to. Good taste for a spiced if drank neat.
Someone I know kepted going on about how great this rum was , it was okay about average . But not a classic as slot of folks say.
There are but a few rums I really dislike. I mean, I don't like to sip Myers black rum because of it's overwhelming and rough taste, but it works for cocktails and mixes well for tiki drinks. So if it's something I don't enjoy in pure form, it doesn't mean that I detest it, and every thing has it's place in life. Not Sailor Jerry though. The taste of it. It's like I'm watching a noir movie, where the guy is sitting depressed in his office, smoking cheap cigarettes and drinking cheap booze to forget his life. It tastes just like that. It is not good for drinking, it is not good for mixing, it is not good for infusions or cooking. It's just very very bad.
It is an ok rum. A little more expensive that the lowest end but also a little bit better. It is good for drinks, but i like to sip my rum and it is not my go to.
Beautiful bottle and history of rum... That's where the positives end. The smell is alcoholic, the spices are felt very lightly. There is no directness in the taste; the taste is also full of alcohol. In cocktails it feels like regular cheap rum without adding any spice. I can't recommend it for purchase.
A good run, not too strong, nice flavour and mixes well with Coca Cola...
(This review is for the 92 proof version, which I still have. It looks like recently they've been bottling it at 80?)
Loads of cherry and vanilla, not a whole lot going on from the spice end, but there's some undertones. Not a sipper by any stretch, too wildly unbalanced for that, but shines in a Cuba Libre where the above flavors really compliment the Coke. Who doesn't love a cherry vanilla Coke?

The rum smells very sweet.
"It is initially very sweet on the tip of the tongue but it soon becomes very bitter."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

It's just ok. Do not drink neat. Good in coke. Smooth-ish.
