Quite good sipping rum: smooth, sweet, characteristic sherry finish.
Well, 1st off I'm not a wine connoisseur or even part take in any type of wine. Maybe if I liked wine I might like this. One thing for sure is there's no need to do this to any rum aged for 15yrs unless you have bad product. Aged rum, especially 15 years and over, acquires it's own notes all by itself. No help needed. So for those who may enjoy sherry or any other wine and partake in rum this might be up their alley, but not mine!
Sladkost: 2/3
Sladkost v normě, krásně voní a má nejdelší a nejvýraznější dozvuk - za mě nejlepší z trojice XV a zároveň s Two Oaks nejlepší Abuelo.
I found this to have a very pleasant start, finish and end. The nose finds molasses, smoke, oak, fruit. These are all present in the flavour, as is the hint of sherry, though it is not overly sweet. The after taste was really strong. No burn, very smooth, lots of plum and grape in there and a slight sour-sweetness.
Comparing this to Dos Maderas 5-5 - well this is not as sweet and it gains a little complexity and richness and loses a little bit of pleasant buzz. This has more going on, but is less immediately enjoyable, suggesting perhaps that this is one that needs to sit in the glass more. When I did that, it opened up and the richness came out.
Which is better? I'd place them equal and both deserve a place on my shelves.
Out of the three in this series, the other two being the Port Cask Finish, and the Cognac Cask Finish, this for me is the best. Having said that, if I’m being brutally honest, this Sherry Cask Finish is nothing to write home about. In fact, neat I think it’s horrid, because it’s rough and incredibly harsh. But when mixed with Coca-Cola it morphs into a completely different animal. Neat there is zero sweetness. The overall taste is nondescript. And it’s way to fierce from the alcohol burn. But like I mentioned, when you add just a little Coca-Cola, it transforms into a very pleasant, sweet, effortless, rum/sherry hybrid. And I say rum/sherry hybrid because there is an abundance of sherry in the finish.
This rum has a subtly sweet taste and quality. It's actually a somewhat dark gold rum, and the sherry cask finish brings a nice flavor. Probably not up your alley if you don't like sweetness, but I find it light and not cloying.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Hot buttered rum but it's only rum so maybe I should say it tastes and smells like butter pecan??
I've never understood the point of a sherry cask until RIGHT NOW
yum!
