Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

I really enjoyed this rum. I have been into Venezuelan rums but took a trip for Guatemala for this one. It is really nice. Good mouthfeel and taste, A bit of alcohol heat, but a nice sipper.
Smooth caramel full body improves as it rests. Best neat
Perhaps the most famous example of top shelf adulterated rum.
Still a damn tasty tipple. Just think of it as a pre-bottled Rum Old Fashioned cocktail.
Raw sugar, baking spices, oak, and a refreshing hint of orange liqueur. Sweet, with good length on the finish. This is the gateway rum you show your friends after spiced rum, before moving them onto Jamaica/Barbados/Martinique.
Nice bottle. Nice story about how the woven bands around the bottle are locally made. The rum inside is what counts though and it this case it does not count for much. I can appreciate a sweet rum just as easily as I can appreciate a nice dry bajan rum. But this rum lacks character and for the price, if I want a sweater rum there are several at a better price with better overall taste.
It is everywhere and non usual rum drinkers fancy it, because it is one of the expensive bottles at a medicore bar. It is super basic on taste, without any deep charecteristic and emotion. Spiritless (as in no soul, not 0% alc) rum. Never tried the other models, but this one I'd never buy myself for sure!
This one is a very good rum. I agree that it is sometimes overrated, but besides its flaws and the confusing name (23 years) it still is a very good rum, perfect as a starting point. It is very sweet, but I don’t find it excessive. It goes perfectly well with some cakes or pasties
This tastes ok, but the additives come through. Not worth the elevated price.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

It's OK, kinda sweet. I expected more for what this cost.
