Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

For me, Zacapa 23 is a perfect introduction for malt lovers looking to discover the wonderful world of rum. I was always a serious scotch lover, and rum never really grew on me. My first great experience with rum was at a wine tasting when someone pulled out a bottle of Zacapa. The elegance, the well balanced sweetness, the complex palate, and lingering finish which reminded me of silan and pine nuts, was all i needed. So, a stunner for me and a great "gateway" for true malt maniacs...
Solid 8
Goes great in a quality cocktail or with a couple pieces of ice. Good but not the best.
I bought this for a close friend's birthday a while back. We both enjoy sipping a good rum and this was one we hadn't tried before. Upon handing over the gift it was promptly opened and sampled over and over and over and over...........all I can say is that I will be buying this for my collection very soon. The combination of flavours on the pallet is enjoyable with a pleasant lingering.
Sehr guter solera rum .
Nicht zu stark und nicht zu süss .
Aroma ehrinert mich an schokolade.
Sehr lange im mund behalten dass der aroma gut rauskommt .
Warm, smooth and silky, long finish. It does not get much better than this.
À venir prochainement.............................
This was my first taste of "real" rum, and I liked it.
I really enjoy Zacapa. I didn't know it wasn't aged 23 years until reading the reviews here. I'm not an expert on rums but I have a fairly good nose for quality wine, beer and spirits (I'm often fooled by cordials, lol). I would highly recommend the rum if you like a mild and balanced rum. I think it's delicious with couple ice cubes.
However I still see this get sold as a 23 year old rum at some bars. This is mostly the bar owners faults but the bottle's design doesn't help.
The taste is different than most rums. It definitely has it's own signature. The virgin sugar cane juice surely contributes to this. It's a very sweet rum. But also the smoky aftertaste.
I've drank quite a few bottles of this and will continue in the future.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.
