All great stories have an inspirational beginning, the same as Añejo has been for Ron Abuelo. It’s our youngest rum, both in age and spirit. Añejo is a fun and enjoyable first impression to our Panamanian rum making tradition. Where all the great stories begin.

I thought it was dark rum, because of the "anejo" in the name. Nope it's Gold. Nothing spectacular. Ok for cocktails, but with the price it has it's definitely not worth it since you'd have similar taste in much cheaper gold rums. I got it on 50% sale, so it's fine.
Very unimpressive rum, nothing outstanding as flavor, and the finish is remarcably short lol.Wouldnt bother drinking it neat or on the rocks.
Not the best as a sipper, I could see using it as a mixer.
I get it on sale for 13 euro without expecting much. Quite surprised me that is good neat. On the nose you feel some sweet and cola nug. The taste is good with some little biterness at the end. Overall is good rum.
I tasted this at my in-laws house. I didn’t get any of the smoke nose or flavor others have noted, but subtle banana and some caramel were there. I usually try a new rum on ice first, and then add coke if I need to. This certainly didn’t need coke, but handles it just fine for a boat drink.
To me it’s what a non-pretentious rum for either sipping or drinking should be.
When I started looking for I bottle of this Anejo, I came across an Abuelo XV Tawny Port. I’m expecting a lot from that bottle. It’s sitting in the shelf waiting for a special occasion.
Tasted 2/7/22 at Laka Lono as part of a 4 rum flight of Abuelos on the way to completing Quartermaster status.
Aroma: bit o' apple
At the time I felt this was a prototype anejo
Edit: Also tasted June 23, 2021 at Laka Lono. This time I gave it a 5/5 so I will stick with the overall 9/10 rating from the previous entry. Notes indicate I tasted it and then had it made into a Daiquiri by Michael. Notes read, "Smokey goodness!" and "love!!!"
Just for the taste it would be 7. Nice barrely start, slightly sweet finish. But the price. It's dirty cheap, but tastes OK. That's +1 point.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

A smooth rum with no distinctive flaws, sweet, not too fruity
