Other than Saint Nicholas Abbey 12 yr rum, MGXO has been my favorite rum from a dryness with natural sweetness at an affordable price ($50 CAD in my area). R.L. Seale 10 yr rum has been on my wish list for some time and I finally acquired two bottles and hesitated to open one as it is so difficult to locate in my area. My initial appeal was the uniqueness of the bottle which resembles a bottles that had melted from extreme heat, very cool!
First impression is the sweet smelling aroma, which I know is NOT from added sugar but rather from natural sweetness derived by the process of distillation for which Mr. Seale is known for. First taste does not disappoint, this is the way rum should taste. It does remind me a lot of the MGXO but it has its own characteristic that makes it very unique. WOW, this is a great rum!
Cannot rate this a 10 as it is not as good as the Saint Nicholas Abbey 12 yr rum but it definitely has become one of my favorite rums. This sells for $27 USD in In the US. Unbelievable.
Thank you Richard Seale.
Hmm, nam, nam, nam. Ma 46 voltov, odporucam par kvapiek vody. Karamel, susene ovocie, hrozienka. 9+
Thia one is a tasty sipper. Is good warm or cold with no ice. Dont mix it and lose the Rum fun
The smell of this rum gives you the impression that it will taste like honey but i do not get this in the taste. It is a very smooth rum although i found it lacking lots of flavour. I got no burn at all from this.
View: Pours dark golden brown
Nose: Hints of oak
Initial Tasting: A bit of the oaknup front, but not much complexity
Body: Oak and spice with very faint caramel
Fade: Not much on the back end
Overall: It's a high quality rum for the price point. I was hoping for a little more complexity, but it was fairly straightforward in that regard. Definitely worth staight but mixes very well, too.
The gimmicky shape of the bottle put me right off trying this rum, but fortunately, I was given a bottle as a Christmas present. My assumption that it was not a serious rum was totally wrong. Strong taste of caramel and liquorice, but not too sweet. Fairly smooth for a 46% proof 10 year old, with just a little burn. It is as good as, if not better, than some of the 12 year olds I drink, but oddly, the 12 year olds currently appear to be cheaper in the UK. Prices fluctuate, so will stock up when, hopefully, the price drops.
Could be less sweet for me but this is in overall great rum you can enjoy as is and you will have hard time to stop drinking :)
The light amber colour and sweet smell should not deter. Taste starts a bit harsh fresh out the unique bottle, but left over a cube or two for a minute starts to uncover a subtle, not overly sweet, taste of banana, spice, vanilla and caramel. Once settled it makes for very pleasant sipping. They have captured perfectly that un-altered Caribbean Rum taste that first lured me to the spirit.
"Buttery, nuttiness hits me and washes over my tongue in waves. It’s magical stuff..."

The nose is classically Bajan.
"It leaves notes of oak, nuts and smokiness behind in the finish which is long and pleasant. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
