I guess when comparing the main stream rums, the biggest competitor is the Mount Gay XO. But the biggest difference to me with this, is that it has better and softer wood than the XO. The 43% alcohol is also better integrated and less spirity. Good.
Very smooth rum good aroma vanilla, smooth finish. No after burn.
Nice sipper and the bottle is quite fun, looks to me like a seal stretching up to catch a fish...A genuine rum, real Bajan flavor, no nonsense and no sugar added, a real rum!
Outside of Mount Gay Extra Old this is what Bajan run should taste like. Slightly dry comparatively but that's what makes it a great choice as well.
Fresh nose, incredibly smooth to start with but then develops a real strong punch that lingers on your tongue. Plenty of oak, a bit of toffee sweetness but overall on the dry side. Really good.
Richard Seale is an advocate of purity in rum - no additives, all the flavors come from aging in barrels. Those with a sweet tooth will prefer rums like Diplomatico or Zacapa, but this is what rum should taste like.
Love the bottle and the rum. Very Nice Smooth rum, great daily drinker
IMO, the third-best from Barbados, behind Doorly's and Mt. Gay XO
A great rum, almost a must have, definitely a must try. The price tag is a bit much though. Not sure of the marketing dept thinking on that one. It would probably be a 9 if it didn't leave your wallet so light.
"Buttery, nuttiness hits me and washes over my tongue in waves. It’s magical stuff..."
"RL Seale 10-Year review by the Rum Diaries Blog"
The nose is classically Bajan.
"It leaves notes of oak, nuts and smokiness behind in the finish which is long and pleasant. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
