Tonight’s Rum: Autentico Nativo 20 Year from Panama. So my birthday was on Nov 18 and coincidentally the same day as the BC Liquor Board Specialty Spirits Sales, so I bought myself a birthday present. I have never heard of this rum, but what the hey, I went for it because we get so few “new” rums in BC. But Let’s get to it!
In the glass this is a dark rum and reminds me of the Lambs Navy rum I stole from my Dad’s liquor cabinet for mt after-grad. It quite frankly looks rich! The nose is if brown sugar and vanilla, with a hint of cane and butter. It’s quite nice and even Lori liked it.
The first sip is soft. It’s not got a bite, nor any bold flavour. It’s delicate and has a slight sweetness, a brown sugar like palette. The flavour on the next few sips remains on the mild side and that’s a two edge sword. Not big in rum, but also not overpowering with complex flavours or alcohol. As I sample the rum over a few more sips, the brown sugar remains with a hint of pineapple and orange. There are no spices, so if you’re not a spiced rum person, this is a good option for you. The sweetness persists for a while as I sip more, then caramel emerges. I like it, but I don’t love it. My Diplimatico 2005 is much better as a demerara rum. In the throat, it’s easy, warm but not the kind of rum an overproof hit might hit you with a WOW (my Worthy Park would knock down most people). The finish is a bit long, and contrary to the feeling in the throat, it has bit of heat in the mouth, but not serious by any means. It only lingers and you’d say, “That’s slightly hotter that I expected.”
Overall it’s decent rum, nice flavours, satisfying. RumRatings.com has this (today) at 7.8, I’m not that far off. I say it’s a strong 8. It like the caramel flavour and easy sipping experience. This is a sipper or a mixer with tropical fruit juices. #391 of my 500 rum goal. Cheers everyone!
This rum is one of my recent favorites, got my first bottles about 7 months ago. It's my go to Latin American rum at the moment, therefore fitting for my first review.
20yo true age statment. Tested for sugar content: 15g/l
Nose: (roasted) nuts, wood, red fruits, tobacco
Taste: tobacco, coffee, raw Cocoa, vanilla, oak, dry with some sweetness
Holds up well against a good balanced cigar.
I'm giving it a 9 based on price quality, being around 50€ where I am.
I'm running out of rums to rate with what's available at my local stores. This one might be the last good one. Very smooth yet you still get a light alcohol burn. Moderate flavor, I didn't pick up any particular taste, pretty well blended
Tonight, this is the game of two grandfathers (in the same price range stadium).
First goal scored by Bortran: it is classic Solera. Good balance between dry and sweet. Charming spicyness.
Then there was massive attack of AN. 3:1 in 5 minutes.
Absolutely delicious, authentic. Naturally sweet, still fine smoky.
Both did not play fair on nose: two yellow cards for Bortran, one for AN.
Both are worth the money and got into a playoff of the best drinks.
P.s. looks like Panamian rums are the best )
Alkohol: 40 %
Původ: Panama
Aroma: Kůže, kořenitost, do sucha, perník.

Great amber color and a hint of licorice. Nice flavor. smooth but not outstanding.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I normally dislike rums that are bourbon barrel aged. This one is an exception. The bourbon flavor is very present, but it seems to augment the natural rum flavors rather than overwhelm them. I can sip this easily. The body is very light rather than syrupy, I could see mixing this with a cola, or something fruity, like a piña colada if you want a bigger kick. It is very good, but not one that I would purchase. I am not a fan of bourbon, except in cooking.
