Pyrat XO Rum is produced from nine different Caribbean rums that are blended and then aged up to 15 years in used American sweet oak barrels.
The squat Pyrat XO rum bottle shape is inspired by the typical design of rum bottles kept by pirates and ship captains in the 19th century.

I've steered clear of this for awhile based on other reviews, and now regret that course of action. Pyrat XO is both ubiquitous and very reasonably priced. As a blend of nine (nine??) different rums and no listing of ageing, I can't help but raise an eyebrow at the "XO" on the label, but what do I know?
This has an interesting, sharp, fruity scent that caught my attention from the get-go. I'll repeat the advice given by others: give this just a few drops of water and a bit of time to sit before sipping. If you do, I think it improves considerably.
Pyrat XO is not a complex rum, and it's clearly been both sweetened and given a citrusy top note. I may be in the minority, but I rather like that top note, and I find this rum very acceptable for simply sipping with a bit of water or ice. Sweeter than my usual preference, yes, but not cloying and quite unique. I wouldn't call this a "liquer" as some what, but the blend has clearly been doctored.
If you're a purist, leave this stuff alone. If you're all right with aromatic pipe tobacco and don't mind an augmented, reasonably smooth blend, I think you'll see why this rum is so easily found.
I have 3 empty bottles covered in medallions. Flavor never changes, taste never changes. Neat or with a cube. No one is ever complains. I have a few whiskey lovers that will gladly pass on a glass of whiskey if I offer them Pyrat.
Leuke fles mooie kleur maar niet mijn type rum. Sinasappel smaak is duidelijk aanwezig redelijk scherp in de afdronk. In mijn ogen een iets te "gemaakte"smaak.
Bottle and package looks nice. Drinks ok, but miss distinctive taste
I would say its average rum, you wont do wrong choice with Pyrat, but there are better rums out there.
Started buying when it was $15 per bottle and continue to enjoy. Priced around $30 locally.
Easy to drink, with a great aroma, both in the glass and in the mouth.
Absolutely superb package - leather case, great bottle, little brass plate with Hoti (god of bartenders), true pirates thing, BUT the drink itself is one of the worst i ever had.
I tried it neat, on rocks, cooled with cooling cubes, left it to sit, i reeeealy wanted to like it, but nope, its horrible.
You may notice i called it a drink, not rum, because to call that bleach a rum is an insult even to those cheap supermarket cooking "rums".
"Had wine not been the drink of choice 2,000 or so years ago, Jesus would have probably turned every drop of water on earth into Pyrat Rum XO Reserve"

"it’s like an orange Chuck Norris came through the joint, belted out a roundhouse kick to the face..."
"Pyrat XO rum review by Lance from RumConnection"
A very definite hit of oranges.
"The orange taste is very much at the forefront and the burn leaves behind a bitter tang of orange peel."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This used to be one of my favorites. After it was sold Patron they changed it. While it's still good it lost something.
