Plantation XO 20th Anniversary rum

Plantation XO 20th Anniversary

Multiple | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still

Plantation XO 20th Anniversary rum is a combination of pot-stilled and column-stilled Barbadian rums that are initially aged in the Caribbean in ex-bourbon casks for 12-20 years. They are then transported to France for a second 12-18 months aging in small French oak casks.

The first bottle of Plantation XO 20th Anniversary was created for the head of Cognac Ferrand Estate Alexandre Gabriel to honor his 20th year running the company. This special gift has resulted in the bottling we see today.

A very gentle, nicely rounded and fairly sweet rum (as would be expected, since it's a rum with some added sugar). If you like the Diplomatica Reserva (as many on this site do), you'll likely find this one to be in a similar category, If you're looking for something more smokey, however, you might want to look elsewhere - there is a bit of bit here, enough that I personally like this one a LOT, but not as much as some might prefer.

I enjoy many of the Plantation rums but this one is disappointing. Taste wise It has no depth or length of finish, in the glass it’s a lovely colour and on the nose smelt notes of coconut which was also in the taste profile but overall the taste of the whole rum disappeared very quickly in the mouth, however very smooth and no harshness, not the best from Plantation.

Smooth, hints of vanilla, oak, and spice. Easy to drink neat.

UPDATE 07-26-21
I have to nudge this down a bottle to an 8. The more rums I drink, the more simplistic and one note this tastes to me. Also, it is still on the sweeter side of my personal preference. Don't get me wrong, it's a good rum, just not as much my preference as other rums, and it is a bit over priced for what it is.

ORIGINAL REVIEW
What is there to say that hasn't already been said? I am not a big fan of sweeter rums but my wife is. Papa's Pilar and Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva being a couple of her favorites. So, picked up a bottle of this to try and all I can say is WOW! This has so much going on in the aroma and flavor palette that it is a party for your tastebuds. There are all kinds of tastes and hints of toasted coconut, toffee, orange, vanilla, warm baking spices, and so much more. The oak is there but very subtle and the finish is long and yet very smooth, not too sweet but definitely not dry either.
This drinks above its price point for sure. Heavily recommended for sipping neat or with a cube of ice or in an Old Fashioned. Way too good to mix.
Go get you some!

Where do I even start. This rum is an experience. Dynamically different than Plantation 5 year.
There's a buttery mouth feel to the rum which is very pleasant, surely reminiscet of the bourbon barrels used for aging.
It's Highly aromatic, very smooth and well worth the purchase. The nose is beautiful, you get heavy toasted coconut, banana, and vanilla.
The flavor is Intense. Deep sweet notes of coconut and molasses, complimented by a fruity smokey finish (mango and oak). Definitely enjoy neat. Just be careful you don't finish the bottle. It's that good!

Plantation XO is top notch!

V aroma jsou cítit květiny a hodně ovoce, vanilka. Barva krásne jantarova. Není tak sladký jak bych čekal. Příjemne jemný a pitelny rum.

Virkelig dejlig rom, helt klart et genkøb hvis er til en lidt sødere rom med dumlesmag!

This is a fantastic rum that worths every penny it costs and is like a caress for your mouth. But...as I say in the title is assembled to win, and they score a try.
My taste is for Agricole, for something ruder, but this is a product so well done and if I find it at a reasonable price I'll buy it again.

I saw the good reviews on this one and thought this can’t be a wrong choice.
Now it wasn’t a wrong choice but what I got in my bottle (maybe I got a bad bottle you know?) was nothing but basic rum n sugars??? Everything about this rum tells it is GOOD but it was no complexity for me. I really felt like I was wasting my money. Now, I will try this rum again and update this review but until then I’m putting my money on spicy rums or Jagura. At least I got a nice bottle XD
