Nice smooth rum with a little sweet caramel and vanilla finish that I liked. Good to drink neat.
Smooth, a little plain but just enough flavor to stay present in a mix. Decent enough to drink straight, nothing offensive. This isn’t your prized sipper, nor should it be — this bottle bears the brunt of your Friday, so come Saturday, the good stuff is still there even when your dignity isn’t. A great standby for the home bar — better than most at this price.
First let me say that my very favorite rum is the Plantation XO 20th Anniversary. After trying this 5-year, it's obviously not as good as the 20th, but it's getting close and it's still a very good rum. For the $22 I paid for this bottle, I have not found anything better. It's got a sweet taste which I like, and a very slight bite but really not bad at all as far as that goes. For a 5-year aging, this is a really excellent rum.
I am no expert, so this is just my Personal opinion without much to compare it to.
Nice and smooth, good flavour. You probably won't buy this one again after tasting the XO 20th anniverary.
It is really good fruity rum that is a good subtitute for Plantation XO when miss those vibes of XO do not want to spend so much money for it, I prefer rums with more wodden flavours but this is one to go on the fruit direction and lower budget
Final verdict: Maybe some day I will giv it another shot
While not overly complex, Plantation Barbados-5 has a subdued sweetness and alcohol punch that won't set you on fire. You can tell it means business, though. If you don't know whether or not you would enjoy neat rum, I would suggest picking up a bottle of this for around $25 to give it a chance. At worst, it would make a good choice as a mixer for drinks calling for a golden rum, though I would consider it to be a little on the light side of bold enough to serve as a dark rum base.
Way to harsh to drink on it's own on rocks, but mix a bit of cola, or use your imagination and you won't be disappointed. It's simple and adaptable while still maintaining that essence that distinguishes it from mass market drivel. The bottle presentation gives it a "island cargo" look to compliment a beach-bar-style cocktail being mixed with it as a main ingredient
Love this Rum. Very smooth, smoky and almost has a hint of scotch taste to it.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
