I love the smoothness of this rum. I drink it with club soda so the taste really comes thru each sip! I do add a lime too just so I ward off scurvy! The molasses comes thru as a vanilla finish. I’ve been to Barbados and gone thru the tour. Another great Barbados rum is Mount Gay! I prefer the Black Label version which is stored in Jack Daniels used blackened barrels. I think that name is awkward. Especially when I wear my shirt from there - people stare at me. I’m straight and I have many gay friends - that’s not the point. Both rums are hidden treasures!

Sweet body with a sharp ending. Hints of vanilla. Great value for money! And a bottle with a cool esthetic to place in your bar!

Not an authentic Barbadian rum due to some heavy dosage post distillation. However, pop this for the non rum snob and they’ll beg for more

A very good rum for the price. As a sipper it's a bit hot for my palate. Sweet upfront with vanilla and sugar but it dries out in the finish and is not too sweet by any means. Not as complex as I'd have imagined. I think this would be fine as a mixer. At less then a $20 bill it's a good rum and could be served over ice with a twist of lime as well. A really good all purpose rum!

Revised May 2019 - I've been using this a lot lately as one of my rums to blend in tiki cocktails and other mixed drinks. I'm raising my rating on this to a 7 from my initial 6 as this rum is excellent when blending with other rums and for use in a wide variety of cocktails. Solid product with not too much dosage added. A fine mixing rum that has many uses!

Best of the Plantation line.. Sweet. Too sweet as my palate improved. Update: this sucks. I think it tastes spiced.

If you’re looking to get into age statement rums, this is a great start! Plantation 5yr is a good balanced semi dry rum good for drinking neat, on the rocks or in your choice of cocktail.

Bought it for EUR 20,00 and it seems to be an ok value. A good contender against 10 year old rums,...even though it is a 5 year one :) The smell is average, burns a bit in the nose...even after 15 min. It tastes like a standard mixer...pleasant us the vanilla like "going down" without a burn. As a mixer with Coke, I must say it is not dominant enough to really stand out.

If you have the money, settle for the XO and not try less...one if my all time favorites.
