Rich flavor as a mixer. Too hot for me to sip, not mellow at all. Would use all day long over a bacardi mixer.
This bottle is truly a workhorse in my cocktail repertoire. Makes the best daquiri or mojito. The Jamaican tones makes its presence known but never overtakes the flavour profile.
Plantation 3 Star has been consistently in my bar since I started making cocktails. It is consistent and versatile. My hobby is making Tiki drinks and this is the rum I go to all the time. I have mentioned in my review of El Dorado 3 year that I may give El Dorado 3 the slight win in comparison but the 3 year is not carried in my area. So Plantation 3 star does just fine.
As a cocktail rum this is probably 8 or 9 out of 10. If you're looking to drink rums neat then it would score low, as a little sharp and unrefined. I try my best to "average" that since there is no distinction on Rum Ratings. So went with the 7.
Update: After tasting more and more rums this has moved up for me personally and am updating to 8. I find this rum to go great in so many places that it's utility has really come to deserve that rating. I like it much better than other white rums of El dorado 3 which is earthy, or Probitas which has the Jamaican leather note.
working in a mobile cocktail bar gave me a lot of experience working with white rum, 90% of the time bacardi but others came through from time to time. We were working a rather expensive wedding when this one came through on the drinks list ever one of us immediately scoffed at the price but I was the only one to actually give it a fair shake and boy was I glad I did I haven't bought anything else for my own cabinet since. Vanilla spice would be my best description of the palate
Was very excited to try this rum as an alternative to my go to Havana 3. Straight away on the nose I knew this wasn’t going to win the contest, I love the slightly sweet fruity tang of HC3 and this just smelt like pure alcohol. Sipping it and again mostly what came through was the alcohol. Mixed with coke it was nice but I really was hoping for a white rum nice enough to sip. Will need to do a side by side comparison of daiquiris for a complete review.
Normally i only drink dark rums pure or white mixed. But today I tried the plantation 3 stars pure. Comparing to dark rums it has A less vanilla/oak nose but more fruity and A bit like German/Austrian Schnaps. In The first sip it taster also A bit fruity, it got A little burn but Its very smooth. After all it got me quite surprised!
Normally I dont like white rum. I can stand it in a drink if I have to (I aint that hard to convince) but this I like just as it is. In a daiquiri or coke its really good.
This rum suprised me, not the best rum but better then Havana 3 years
It’s mainly a nose of strong alcohol.
"Initially it sips quite well and is reasonably smooth but it is has a very strong taste when swallowed."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This is a great white rum. Very smooth, a bit sweet, and very nice in cocktails like a classic Daiquiri.
