For me a go to drink during winter, warming with a toffee like flavour. I would never use a mixer with it, my view is a mixer is only used to hide a poor flavour and ice to kill any flavour.
it’s quite overwhelming neat. A bit too harsh for me. Maybe I’m not developed enough to appreciate the flavour. I can sense it will be nice with a mixer. The undertones of a nice rum are there. (I hope anyway). Kind of burnt taste, I’d prefer it to be softer. Need a decent portion of mixer to chill the intensity and it’s okay.
Had several glasses of this whilst working up in Scotland.....and that’s what got me hooked on rum! So beware...this could be the slippery slope for you too!
Big bold toffee, molasses, something to chew on! Hasn't changed in years which is good. Cheap and cheerful
Tasty smooth a great drink with ginger beer or on the rocks but works well with cola and a load of other drinks would recommend it 100%
While traveling, had a chance to try this rum. Very nice, good rum for a good price
love the label its simple
the rum is strong and powerful and u will enjoy around a fire on a stormy night
Get into it :)
If you're on a night out in Scotland then this will be the standard dark rum you'll be served. It's got notes of molasses and a small amount of sweetness, but these are limited. Taken neat then it's a bit fiery, most people take this with a mixer; it serviceable but nothing special.
I can't help but feel it's overpriced. Locally I can get this for £20, but if you like Demerara rum then Watson's Demerara is available at £17.50 and, in my opinion, is a far better rum. To be honest I find it has less taste than Co-op Navy Rum which is available at £14. Budget taste, but mid-range price.
This is more a plum liqueur- than Demerara. It is not bad, but - not all that great. The price is - Great, I mean. Still, given the time and place, it is nice to sip in a pub on a cold evening, even with ice (tames down the heavy caramel use). OK.
Although it seems quite smooth it burns quite harshly.
"With cola it immediately froth’s up (as Navy rums often do) however, it doesn’t taste quite like a navy rum."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Treacle, solid and drinkable. Lacking a bit of complexity.
