Somehow, not sure of it's the cherry cask finishing, but this rum is powerful in mouth. Totally worth to try.
Sampled at Sloppy Joes. This has a wine-like aroma. It is smoother and better than the regular Dark rum. Sweet and complex wood flavors. Sherry notes pronounced. UPDATE: Tasted the Laka Lono Select barrel on 11-14-23. Much more of a bourbon- like aroma and flavor. Still has big woods though. With a few drops of water this explodes into a spice world! Incredible. My score goes up to a 9 for the Laka Select Barrel. I’ll keep the posted score for the regular batch.
I’m not a fan of the regular Papa’s because of all of the additives and sugar so I tried this one reluctantly. That said, it’s not too bad. Yes, it’s still VERY sweet but it’s not as sugary and fake tasting.
I’m a big fan Pilar. I think they make great blends and are very palatable. Sherry was not overpowering, more of a hint which is great because you don’t want to mask the rum…. Or you’d just order a dang sherry.
Very pleased with this. Far better than the base rum. Not overly complex, but a very easy rum to sip. Slight flavors of cask and an almost red glow to it.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This is my go to rum when sitting down for the evening. It has a subtle sweetness that I enjoy. Smooth enough to enjoy neat and opens up with a bit of ice.
