Mount Gay Eclipse rum is produced from molasses that is double distilled and aged up to 2 years in white Kentucky oak ex bourbon barrels.
Mount Gay is the oldest existing rum brand in the world, with it's oldest surviving deed being from 1703. The company developed the use of traditional double copper pot stills, a process that has been in continuous use by Mount Gay ever since its founding. The company's namesake Sir John Gay Alleyne was a good friend of John Sober who purchased the then Mount Gilboa distilleries in 1747.

Completely serviceable rum for cocktails, and a step up from similar rums at this price point. I made eggnog with it recently, and it was great. A bit too light for sipping but if you’re in the store ready to pick up Bacardi for mixed drinks and see this one, grab it instead. You’ll be pleasantly surprised.
This is the best after a long day on the water enjoyed with friends tonic and lime
Tasted at Laka Lono on 10/14/21. Aroma of bananas and honey. Treacle flavors. Strong pepper finish.
One of the best rums available for the price. Inoffensive but does have a strong ethanol nose initially
This is far from a great rum but it's totally decent. It's not particularly memorable taste-wise. It has a slight vegetal quality which reminds me of agricole but it is nevertheless still fairly smooth with minimal bite. I'm turning it into my own spiced rum and I think it will work wonderfully for it. Cheers!
I haven't bought much rum, but this is the cheapest bottle I've had, and I was surprised at how well it went down. The flavour was.. harsher (compared to the Mount Gay XO and Diplomatico RE) but it was still easy to drink.
When the need arises for a simple rum that will please, then this is it.
If you want to spend less than £20 on a bottle of rum if it's either a spice rum or Bacardi. Unless you choose this, and you really should.
This was my first try of any Mt. Gay rum and I have to say that there was nothing really special about it when I tried it neat. Nor was there anything really bad about it. I'm hoping it gets more interesting in cocktails.
