Mount Gay Eclipse rum is produced from molasses that is double distilled and aged up to 2 years in white Kentucky oak ex bourbon barrels.
Mount Gay is the oldest existing rum brand in the world, with it's oldest surviving deed being from 1703. The company developed the use of traditional double copper pot stills, a process that has been in continuous use by Mount Gay ever since its founding. The company's namesake Sir John Gay Alleyne was a good friend of John Sober who purchased the then Mount Gilboa distilleries in 1747.

Better than a lot by it self but locally it can be had in large plastic bottles which makes it top notch for boat drinks!
A very good rum at the price level. A little harsh on its own, however when mixed it is smooth but still interesting. Think banana bread. a little sweetness but not too sweet. Easy to drink and as entry level Mount Gay it sets a standard.
There’s nothing wrong with this rum but there is nothing to write home about or get excited. It’s just the same old standard cheap gold rum.
Maybe Better for à mixer
Eclipse is not so great and not tastefull rum but it cheap and have amazing yellow color like liquid sunlight!
Poured neat, it has a bit of a nutty aroma with a hint of orange peel. It has a clean taste with just a little burn in the back of the throat, and it leaves behind a bit of the oakiness that makes you want to go back for more. It tastes a bit young, I would love to try an aged version of this rum, but it would be good in a punch.
After so many years of searching for a tasty mixer that is cheap and never does a number on your system, Mount Gay Eclipse wins hands down. I only wish that it were as widely available back then as it is now, since it could have saved me lots of Bacardi hangovers in the seventies. This one is even okay on the rocks, but never neat. However, thanks to my bad experience with their XO at more than double the price, I probably won't buy any more from Mount Gay.
This rum is great for mixing either but equally agreeable over ice. A lovely golden colour, this rum has hints of spice with a gentle warmth.
It's a bit rough and best used with a mixer. Bog standard "rum and coke" type of rum. Gets a 6.5 with this; neat I'd give it 4. Put Pepsi in it. Put something in it.
Velmi suchá, ale jemná chuť. Trochu kořeněná a ve střední části trochu štiplavá.

Quite sickly sweet smell.
"When sipped the rum does not exhibit much of these sickly sweet flavours. It’s just very heavy on the alcohol. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

A friend had a bottle of this and being a rum drinker I had to try it on the rocks, my normal drink. I did like the taste, but felt it was kind of harsh going down and afterward. I'd definitely drink it if it was the only option, but there are better options in this price range. Specifically Cruzan gold.
