Very little smell (like vodka), but it definitely tastes like a rum version of acetone. This stuff is strong, like "moonshine" you'd make in your bathtub. Reminds me of Bacardi, but worse!
If you drink must drink this, do yourself a favor and put it in something that will mask the flavor!
No redeeming rum characteristics whatsoever. More like rubbing alcohol with a slight lighter fluid finish. Setting the rum in the freezer for a sufficient amount of time will tend to neutralize much of the
off-putting taste, as well as the vapor trails. Should be more appropriately labeled, "Tricky Daddy's Revenge".
I'm not familiar with the #12 classification, but this review is for Cane Run light rum: my personal go-to rum for the perfect Mojito.
nose - vanilla
taste - grassy, vanilla, light, almost no burn
I'm a novice tikiphile. In my opinion, the Jamaican + Agricola (more generally, sugar cane rum) combo in a Mai Tai taste the best. I've done a blind taste test, this rum versus Clement Select Barrel in Mai Tai's. Both my wife and I said the both taste very similar. Find the Cane Run version was more grassy and the Clemete version had a rosy taste. So if your looking to make budget friendly Mai Tai's, try this with some J Wray Gold.
Filler/base rum for mixed drinks.
Not worth the $ in any way. I couldn't detect any flavor other than strong alcohol and it had a very potent burn.
A friend brought this to a rum tasting as the guy at the liquor store said it was a good value ($15 on sale for $6). It was one of the first rums we tried (light to dark) and a train wreck. About 8 of us tried it and most struggled to finish even a sip or mix it with anything. 2 other light rums tasted that day were far better (Artisan Grain Silver rum (very enjoyable for a light rum) and blue chair bay (ok)). Much better light rums out there that cost the same or less (Don Q Cristal and Cruzan Aged Light to name two).
I admit I prefer aged rum to light style, but found no redeeming qualities in Cane Run Estate #12.
Light, almost tastes like watered down vodka. No rum taste when tried on the rocks.
Crystal clear in color and very little smell. Maker is right that this is smooth and honestly could be sipped but ideal in your classic drinks like a coke. Worth the less expensive price
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Sugar: 0 GPL but you’ll need a sweet mixer to drink it. I had this at a liquor store tasting stand and it’s a cheap and cheerful rum. Tastes and smells a bit like vodka and gin mixed with fresh distilled rum. It’s drinkable with a mixer. I have tasted worse.
