Trinidad and Tobago | Spiced | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Kraken Black Spiced Rum was first introduced by Proximo Spirits in 2010 . The dark rum is infused with 11 “secret” spices, caramel and other natural flavors.
The rum gets its name after the mythical sea creature 'The Kraken'. As legend has it, this terrifying creature attacked ships at sea during the 18th and 19th centuries - possibly for all the rum on board.

Great rum with great price. Best choice to start your dark rum carrier.
Nice looking bottle but I`m a bit dissapointed by the contents. diddnt realy like the taste.
Nothing to write home about, but a decent enough spiced rum. Nice with a drop of Coke and always something I will keep on the shelf for if people come round and aren't into good rum straight.
Was invited to young people (30) who offered me to rum the like. Looking to dark brown color and familiar taste, cocacola came to my mind: caramel, vanilla, cocoa, spices at the end and of course sweet. Like it better with second sip...
Very nice bottle, but I had higher expectations on the taste. I wouldn't say it is very sweet. You can easily understand the coffee in there, as well as some caramel notes. I wouldn't buy another bottle but if I find it in a bar's list, it could be a choice.
Nice mix rum, great with Coke. The taste profile reminds be of the Captain Morgan spiced black rum.
good spiced rum, many a good time had unleashing the kraken
Nice amount of spice and sweet enough - good sipping rum.
A caramel/treacley heavy molasses like smell. .
"There is nothing subtle about the spicing and the caramel flavour makes the rum, to my taste overly sweet."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Many people despise this rum, but I don't really see why. Yes, there is suggar added (~30g/liter), yes, it is a flavored rum, but it still tastes quite good!
Starting with the looks, I enjoy the distinctive bottle design but wish it had a cork stopper.
The rum itself has a really dark color and is strong in aroma. There are notes of that alcohol punch, spice, wood, caramel, and some vanilla too. It is spicy and sweet.
When I tasted this rum for the first time, the first thing I noticed was the strong alcohol kick - this rum is 47% alcohol. That is part of the experience though and is not unpleasant. I can't really taste all the 11 secret spices, although there definetely is some spice. There is also quite a lot of coffee and caramel in the taste.
The alcohol strength continues in the aftertaste together with a subtle spicyness and caramel.
Now don't get me wrong, this is still a ~30 EUR rum, it is not perfect but nonetheless very much enjoyable. It is different and quite strong but worth a try. I think this might become a permanent part of my cabinet as it is good both for mixing and drinking neat.
UPDATE: I found out that two versions exist based on region - 40% and 47% ABV. The 40% is naturally less sharp but it also lacks on complexity and flavourfulness of the stronger one. It is also less sweet.
