Kraken Black Spiced Rum was first introduced by Proximo Spirits in 2010 . The dark rum is infused with 11 “secret” spices, caramel and other natural flavors.
The rum gets its name after the mythical sea creature 'The Kraken'. As legend has it, this terrifying creature attacked ships at sea during the 18th and 19th centuries - possibly for all the rum on board.

When ordering a rum and cola one night and asking for Myer's I soon learned it was not what I had ordered. After an apology I learned it was the Kraken Black Spiced Rum. I was pleasantly surprised how tasty it was with Pepsi and a slice of lime. It's favorable as most spice rums are with a nice dark color and some good body. For a dark spiced rum, I was not disappointed. It's actually pretty good and the price is right also.
I like sipping rums but this one is not sipping rum for me. I drank half the bottle with Cola. Little better than Capten Morgans Black Spiced.
I have recently got into rum having had a sample pack of Pirate's Grog and then purchasing three bottles which quickly disappeared. On a bit of a whim as I was short on Rum, I snapped up this trendy looking bottle and a quick skim of reviews suggested it was going to be OK.
Definitely not one to have on it's own, it doesn't fair badly when mixed with pineapple juice, coke, ginger beer etc. but when I sampled it neat I found it quite insipid in taste and very "vapourous" if that's a word!
I'm drinking the 47% Kraken bought in duty-free many years ago. Im not a spiced rum drinker/fan, sorry! There is no nuance in Kraken, but at least it's not Captain Morg's or one of those similar cough syrup jobbies. Unfortunately for Kraken theres a lot more spiced rum competition these days...
You would have to love both heavy added sugary-caramel flavour and vanille flavour to like this Rum.
Do NOT let people tell you, that this is a sipping Rum. It simply isn't. The flavour profile is overly sweet and nothing interesting is going on. It is meant to work somewhat in cocktails. Nothing less and nothing more.
Kraken! The spiced finish is brilliant. Perhaps on the more expensive side for a 1L bottle, but worth it if you enjoy black spiced rum, plus a great look on your shelf! Easily drinkable neat, perfect with ginger beer (wouldn't waste it on cola though...) Happy drinking
In this price category, this is one of the better, average rums. An interesting sweet taste that I recommend trying. But not unique.
This bottle started my rum career. Alway enjoyed it neat but it became too sweet for me once I started trying non-spiced rums.
A caramel/treacley heavy molasses like smell. .
"There is nothing subtle about the spicing and the caramel flavour makes the rum, to my taste overly sweet."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Very good taste, but does obviously not smell or taste much of classic rum, so if that's what you are looking for, this is the wrong place. Sweet, licorice, vanilla, caramel... Smooth to drink, and the ethanol/aceton smell and taste is very well hidden.
